I believe Ganassi has the only ones in the world outside of FoMoCo.

Anybody have a clue if FoMoCo has plans to sell race cars later ?

I would love an FGT race car :cool

I'd also be curious if they will allow privateers to buy full race versions. Probably not right now since they don't want anyone competing. But recall that Holman/Moody ran cars along side Ford in 1966/1967 and Wyer ran them in 1968 1969.

Mustang GT350 race car - yes. GT race car - no.

PS You'll have to make your own.

Ford backed 4 teams in 1966: Shelby American, Holman-Moody, Alan Mann Racing & Ford of France, along with the privateers from Filipinetti and Comstock. The reason for the split between Shelby and H-M was due to driver tire sponsorship contracts of American drivers - Goodyear drivers with Shelby, Firestone drivers with H-M.

I would hope that Ford will keep the most notorious car for their posterity, an sell off the rest of the chassis. I too would be more interested in the race cars.

Ford said 6 cars would be built, 2 for the IMSA team, 2 for the WEC team and a spare chassis for each. There's a chance the WEC 66 was written off last weekend at Spa, so we may now be down to 5 cars, now. They've said they won't look into selling them to private teams while the factory program is going as supporting customer teams adds a huge, additional element to the program, but said they might consider selling them to private teams after the factory program is done. Time will tell...

As far as who actually owns the cars right now, I don't know. Often times the cars are pre-sold to collectors as a means of raising capital for the racing program, but I have no idea if that's the case here. I have to imagine one will go into the Henry Ford Museum, especially if they win Le Mans.
