Got my Ford GT Recall Notice Today for Air Bag Replacement

Strange, just checked mine again and it shows no recall. I am #340

Need to replace my driver air bag VIN 2006 # 00367 :-(
Any idea to whom I can talk to at Ford concerning European GT expatriates?

Hi Desi - I'm talking to some contacts to find out the European process - will advise when I know. We are some way behind the U.S. At present on this.

I received my letter yesterday # 581, No dealers in my area will touch, Let alone do an oil change.
Is this something that Rich & Dennis can help with when in carlisle this summer ?
Hell Frank,
Get the part and I'll change it for you - you buy Lunch !

Mine is being done at 8:30 AM today here in Naples FL. I also received separate notices for driver and passenger side. I received the notices about a month ago and they said they would contact me when the parts arrived which they did. This particular dealership Tamiami Ford in Naples. Coined from the Tamiami trail- Tampa to Miami , has a specific mechanic and bay for thier GT specialist. He knows the cars expertly and personally moves and works on them himself. I trust and recommend the dealership because of him. I am going to wait as they told me about 90 minutes.

Had mine done on Friday at Santa Monica Ford. In and out in 1 hour.

Kevin, do they have the parts on hand or did they have to order them? I'm coming down this weekend and would like to get it done while I'm in SoCal.

I had both airbags replaced in Naples Florida last week as I had posted before hand. I have a Mac desktop and the last time I tried to post pictures I could not get them posted. I will attempt again over the weekend. They were extremely corroded and the mechanic called me over to show me and I took pictures of both with my cell phone. The process by Ford involves pounding the passenger airbag out of a tube on the passenger side. Obviously the driver side much easier. I would be very concerned after seeing the condition of the removed airbags and anyone who is not subject to the recall I would suggest having them inspected. The mechanic said it was the first one he did and has four more scheduled but was surprised of the condition of them! They were both extensively rusty but the passenger was very concerning because of the potential damage it could cause if not removed. Im happy that they are no longer in my GT.

great info. Pics will be very helpful once you get them posted.

So was there two different suppliers for the GT inflators? Or is only a certain run of the Takata inflators being recalled?

It appears my new inflator I am to install is made by Takata. I am not thrilled.

The corrosion has been suspected as causing the failure but now some are saying it is the propellant ( amonium nitrate)itself causing the corrosion. And yes I fear the new inflator contains the same propellant. I think we are going to be talking about this for a long long time.

Not received any...

I live in Miami, and received the first recall notice in November and contacted my dealer immediately and then in January got the double recall letters and contacted my dealer again and they said the inflators are still on back order. Contacted Ford who was of no use. It's March now and I am still waiting on parts. I have not driven my car since the first recall notice. Is it only the inflators that need to be replaced or has anyone on here had their air bags as well changed? I'm kind of pissed since Florida was the state where the recall started because of the humidity and yet it's been 4 months.

Only the inflator's are involved. They don't change your airbag.

You might check with another dealer. I received mine in 3 days.

Please see my post just a couple of posts down on the page under Billy J. I also posted some pics of the replacement. My parts came in in about a week or so..

I never got a notice for driver or passenger side inflator. Checked online and came up with driver side. I took my car to ford dealer in Plano, they allowed me to drive the car on and off the rack for the oil change and drive the car into the service bay for the inflator to be swapped out. The recall work took 5 minutes. They didn't disconnect the battery cable, which I thought they should have, but no issues. On a side note, the car took 11 quarts of oil. Car has an oil cooler on it. I thought that was a lot, but pressure was good. Still have not yet received a notice in the mail. I sure hope they don’t have to do the passenger side.

Why would I have to just change the drivers side and not the passenger side?

They should have disconnected the battery but since it did not blow while working on it, the concern is past. Your car has an oil cooler other than the factory installed oil to water cooler?

Different cars got different inflators from different lots or manufacturers. Driver and Passenger side are different part numbers.

I am sorry, it's a transmission cooler. I just drive, clean and wax car, I actually know nothing else. Why did my car take 11 quarts??
