Tho the Dinosaur diorama car is also outside the box. :lol

Pretty cool Cub Scout Pine wood derby.

Looks to me that there "may" have been some adult participation.

'Not a-zackly what I thought I'd be seeing!

Haha, those are some fine looking automobile designs Randy. I particularly like the watermelon car and the "Mr. GoodCar"

It was important to me to do it as a joint project. My younger son actually did more than my older son, since my younger son is currently obsessed with tools. He helped pull the trigger on the clamped drill to polish the axles with me, and also with the limited wheel prep. My older son helped with the coping saw cutting.

What was hilarious for all involved, was calling each of the scouts up at the end of the night to pick up their cars and receive a patch, and one of the poor scouts didn't know which car was his. So, the den leader asked him, "Do any of these look familiar to you?"

A good laugh was had by all.

Would have been faster with a RED car.

Sounds like your kids really got into the Derby. Well Done.

A couple of decades ago both of my sons did The Derby when they were in Scouts. The cars and winners award are still in the display case at home. The second year our Troup did The Derby we had an adults prepared race. One of the fathers was an aero engr at Boeing. His went through the wind tunnel at work in preparation for the race. He brought the print out and found that he might as well just put a block of wood with wheels in the race. Graphite polished wheels and axles did the trick. And a "few" ounces of hidden lead in the nose of the car.

Good Memories. Thanks for the post.

I think a Stegosaurus has better aerodynamics :)

Very Cool Randy. Looks like a great time. :cheers

The tree, as you can imagine, was a giant parachute on that car. It was fun to watch it slowly float along. It won the "most humorous" award.

Also, that same Scout can sell up there with the best of them - watched him in action - no fear. The pack somehow sold $8000+ worth of popcorn. But what's messed up is that the popcorn is really expensive. I was very touched that complete strangers will dig deep and support the Scouts, purchasing items that are definitely far above market.
