What are some of you guys using that you recommend. I searched and found a few systems - most were $1000 + .

Hoping to find something decent for the Rally, but not too expensive as I probably won't use it much afterwards.

Thanks

take a look at Griot's --the Go Pro system. Quite a number of road racers use this simple unit. Around $200.

The HERO camera is fairly inexpensive

Not so great in the sound.

I am using a Panasonic TZ-5 and Z3 point and shoot camera using a suction cup mount to the back window. Both these cameras take 720P video at 30fps. The newer Z3 uses a newer codec and will record much more video, but has the downside of less editing software. The TZ5 uses Mjpg and will only record about 12-15 minutes at the highest res. before the 2G file limit is hit.

I used my son's SD10 Canon Shock and Waterproof camera in video mode for a recent track event in the MINI. Worked great. I had a $35 aluminum mounting bracket that connects to a standard headrest (useless in the GT).

The camera worked great. Everyone loved the vid and didn't realize it came from a simple point and shoot.

You could also use a MINO HD for $179 that can record 120 minutes.

I don't have any car footage but this is my buddies GoPro. Not a bad little camera. It's very small and light and makes a good helmet cam and is just fine for web video. I think if I was shooting car video I would invest a regular HD camera and mount since size is not that big of an issue. Would bring much higher quality video for viewing on HD TV.

I looked at the Mino and like the from factor, but don't like the fact that it has a fixed focus and focal length lens. That limits what can be done and the results you may get. It might be a good choice for a car cam, but I couldn't find any specs on the field of view.

Oh, I didn't know it was fixed focal length.

My MINO (non HD) lets me zoom in.
