Tires and RPM

Guys

The GT looks great from the back ( every angle for that matter ) , however the GT comes stock with 315 width tires on the rear and I was wondering if anyone has gone to wider tires such as 335 or 345 , also will wider tires fit on the BBS rims

My next question has to do with engine RPM when cruising and shifting , as I have not driven a ton of super cars I am unfamiliar with how hard you can push the engine , what is the ideal RPM when shifting from gear to gear without damaging the engine I have heard 3000 to 7000 RPM shifts .

Also when cruising is 3000 RPM to high or to low , considering the long term wear on the engine , I have also heard that these engines are pretty much industructable as they are built to race and run at high RPMs

GTforme, unless you've changed the tune, you have a rev limiter at 6500 rpm. You'll know when it kicks in. A tune can extend it to 7000.

Driving in 6th at 85 is 2000 rpm. If you're doing 3000 rpm or more in 6th, you're going much faster than the legal limit. You can run 1st gear to 60 mph.

People have gone to wider tires, but only with different wheels. Check the wheel and tire sticky for options people have used.

there are plenty of people running wider tires on stock BBS rims.

Ok, if they are.....post up for gtforeme what he is asking for!

Frank's post was offering up information.....

I have Michelin PS2 345/30's on standard wheels. Wheel/tire sizing info from an internet site indicated OEM wheels were the ideal width for 345's. They turn about 7% faster (which is significant). Simple modification to an SCT tune for the speedometer to be correct. In short, they are sticky, faster and wear much better than the Goodyear's. I love em :cheers

Rob, Bob, who is very close to your place, is running the Bridgestone Scuderia's (345) on the back with the stock 10 spoke BBS wheels. I believe he's also got the Bridgestone Porsche 265's on the front. You should check it out, especially as you can get your own view on the sizing. You might also look into lowering the car a touch, like I've done.
