I found the article below; I haven't tried it yet. I'll check the ground etc... My GT had been sitting without a charger for 6 or 7 weeks. Anyone have any other thoughts?

Talk about a freak-out. I'm driving the GT and I look over and see the gas gauge past empty. A few minutes earlier I'd had just under a quarter of a tank, but now I'm in heavy Friday afternoon traffic and no fuel stations are in sight. I couldn't believe the car gulped nearly a quarter tank in the 10 minutes since I'd last looked at the gauge (sure, it will go that fast during top speed testing at the Nardo track in Italy, but not in stop-n-go on PCH)... Then I happen to glimpse the tach, which was also sitting at zero (bizarre because I had the engine on and was moving at about 20 mph). A glimpse at the speedo, temp and oil pressure dials confirmed the obivous -- the gauge cluster was dead. Suddenly I wished I was back to simply driving on fumes. But the car seemed to be running fine, so I kept going and started wondering how hard it would be to schedule a dealer visit while also driving around without any fuel, temp or oil information (not to mention speed or rpm data). Then I had an inspiration. My old 1970 Plymouth GTX often suffered from intermittent gauge failure, but flipping the headlights on always cured the problem -- at least for awhile. I reached down, flipped the on GT's toggle switch for headlights, and BAM! Every gauge jumped to life. That was over 500 miles ago, and the issue hasn't re-appeared, so maybe it was a fluke (actually, it was obviously a bad ground, but so far not a recurring one). Either way, I love it when my history of driving old Mopars actually aids me in 21st century automotive diagnostics.

'Factory 'structions state if you're going to leave the car parked for more than 2-3 weeks to put a trickle charger on it.

'Betcha a dollar to a doughnut you simply need to TRICKLE CHARGE the battery for about 3 days or so 'n' all will be fine. :thumbsup :cheers

(Don't QUICK charge it!!!:thumbsdow)

Interesting...thanks for the tip...I should actually read the manual at some point...then again why bother when we have the wealth of information available here :lol. Mine just sat for almost a month but fortunately started right up. I will remember to hook up the battery charger in the future when I don't have time to get her out.:cheers

Thanks guys, I have it back on the correct charger (GT KIT I got off of this site from Kendall) now. We moved to Denver and the car sat until I could get it out here. I'll check it tomorrow...

Does turning on the headlights reset a breaker?

I know it sounds strange but I have seen where the additional power draw from one system does seem to correct others. Ground problems are funny that way. :ack

true... and I hope Larry is also :cheers wouldn't be the same without him..

Thank god he didn't buy a red one!

Clarification

Not to defame EP, but his car did have several miles at the time of sale. I really don't know how he gathered the title but I am quite sure there are much less driven cars out there, some folks even keep them in a bubble. To each his own, but EP's car is far from the least driven. So Larry, how many miles did you put on it exactly?

Prowler, this is America :usa. America is all about color and personality. It doesn't matter that EP didn't have the lowest mile GT, it is the colorful personable way that his time with his GT was expressed. I'm just sorry that I wasn't here from the beginning to watch it all unfold :biggrin.

One thing I can tell is EP enjoyed his time with his gal more than some guys who have driven theirs more. Keep doling out the :slap :box: and :tongue to the garage comments EP and I will be right here laughing along with you. :cheers
