Saw this on ebay this morning. Does anyone know if this is the "coconut car"?

Yeppers!!!!

already been discussed. Yes, it is......

Something does not add up. Below is a quote of what the guy that sold it to ANDY said he sold it for:
$128,000 purchase price
$700 for 2 rear tires
$500 to my friend for using his dealer license
$132,000 sold price
Profit $2800 :thumbsup

So, instead of paying to rent a car for a week I made $2800 and put 100 miles on a GT. That works for me. More importantly I learned more about the GT market place and the car itself. Why did I take a short deal? I found another place to put the money.

2006 Caterpillar M315D Wheeled Excavator with 775 hours, $300,000 list. I paid $130,000. Sounds like a good deal but until it's sold I won't know! You never do till it's over, one at a time. Profit doesn't always happen, but an education does.

OK, $132k sold to ANDY. Shipping around $1k at the least. Total repaint is gonna cost around minimum $5k (probably more) and I am sure there was a part or two that needed replacing. So, lets say they guy has $139k in the car. All that work, time and money invested to make $3k????? Anybody else on the same page as me?

It looks better than it did after the ex-wife bombarded it with coconuts!

Didn't think she made it that far. :rofl

If I remember right it was just a pissed off or pissed up girlfriend that did it

I missed the original thread regarding this car, it literally came from my back yard. I was offered this car before the guy in the other thread got it, I offered $120 and was told that they wouldn't take less than $125. It wasn't just the paint that was bad, the interior was rough and I didn't trust the odometer reading (its miami!). The paint job looked like it was done in someones garage with tape marks all over the place, fish eyes etc, but in retrospect I should have purchased it for $125 and repainted it a different color.

Nope. Just from what you stated above you did the RIGHT thing 'PASSING' ON IT. If it LOOKED that bad - it WAS! I wouldn't want to even GUESS at the treatment the drive train pbly rec'd.

Thats just it though, the car left me with the impression of being the text book definition of "rode hard and put up wet". It even had a nasty funk inside. Whats the coconut story?

I rest my case...

I know, but still $125 is a bargain, I have seen at least 5 GT's go through the insurance auctions (all of which had $50k+ in damage) right at the $100k mark. I have no idea how these buyers make economic sense at those numbers (I assume they're all going overseas because of the wonderful dollar), with that in mind $125k for a running car wasn't a bad deal. I was really taken aback with the cars overall condition though, I can't comprehend how anyone would let their FGT get into that kind of condition.

Maybe the car really sold for closer to 125k to Andy?

I gotta say this though... this has to be the most talked about GT I've ever come across. It's really gettin' silly how it keeps comin' back every couple month's. Let's drop the "coconut" nickname and just call it something that keeps coming back to haunt you. Any ideas? (STD's not allowed) How about...

"The Ex"? :shrug
(ex-wife, ex-girlfriend, ex-president Clinton, etc.)
:screwy::agree:

Da Boomerang GT!

I'll find out what the guy who offered it to me paid for it, I'm sure he didn't pay more than $110.

OK, my friend paid $119 for the car and gave me an interesting bit of information. The car was hit on the left rear, had the bumper, left rear a-arms, 1/4 panel and scoop replaced. So much for coconut damage!
