I wish my folks were still here so I COULD do that. But, I did the next best thing. 'Pointless as it may seem to some, I dropped by the cemetery with mine for a bit ... and I don't care who knows it.

Empty Pockets, actually I have done that. My father passed away 12 years ago. He had always wanted a Rolls, could have afforded it but somehow never took the plunge. :frown That feeling of never having something you desire and worked hard for may be one of the reasons I bought my GT. I think he would have enjoyed the car................ After he said
"YOU SPENT WHAT ?"

Thanks for the sentiment ! GTNJ

You hit the nail on the head EVERY INCH OF THE WAY, Sir. ( My Dad was as a "Caddy" man, though. But he DID buy his. 'Had his last one almost 20 years. He wouldn't part with it. It's still out at the folk's place. )

AND MY DAD WOULD HAVE SAID THE EXACT DADGUM THING ABOUT ME BUYIN' MY GT AS YOUR'S WOULD HAVE!!!!!!!!!

In fact, when I bought my 'Vette ( 435/427, 4-spd, "T- top") back in 1968 he said almost exactly that! He was actually leaning against the car kinda looking all bored 'n' stuff as the salesman & I came out (to put a "sold" sign on it) and Dad said, "So...where IS this $6,300 wonder car you're buyin'?" And I said, "Uh, Dad? You're leaning on it." With that he JUMPED away from it, looked at it in astonishment & said (you guessed it!), "YOU'RE PAYING $6,300 FOR THAT???????!!!!! Aaaaaah! You're NUTS!" ...But HE smiled from ear to ear whenever HE rode in it! And he always had that little devilish twinkle in his eye & that "cat that ate the canary" smirk on his face whenever he saw the car - or whenever it was even mentioned.

I could just see him and Mom in my mind's eye again last July kinda quietly witnessing me buy the GT ... 'sorta smiling (smirking?) a bit & kinda shaking their heads a little over THAT outlay for a car not much bigger than that old 'Vette way back when. Dad probably said (No! I KNOW he did!), "Mildred, just look at this. After all these years that darn kid hasn't learned a thing."

I think it's a "parent thing", don't you?

God rest them both.

Sorry for all the blather. I'll shut up now.

That was beautiful.

My dad finally learned to quit asking what I pay for my toys. It just upset him. He was never a car guy and doesn't "get it". He turns 90 years old tomorrow.

Ordered my GT with my dad at Ford's centennial celebration. The ordering process made him both smile and scratch his head. Unfortunately, he finally succumed to his long battle with leukemia before I could take delivery. I dearly wish he could have been here to see and drive it. He was a true car guy, and he exercized the discipline to pass on buying any of the cars of his dreams.

But there is no doubt that he would have kicked my butt for spending this kind of money on a car!!

mother in law

took my mom in law out in my gt,asked her how fast has she ever gone in a car ,she said 100mph.I than told her she could now say 140mph!!She looked at me and smiled.
She loved the car!Me too!

Plus another 100 mph

I too, stop by the cemetary and talk to my Dad and my Brother about once or twice each month... My Dad would never understand the GT, my Brother would absolutely love it.

I miss them both dearly.

May they both Rest in Peace.

Thanks for starting this post Doug! It obviously has touched many hearts and to all of those who posted heartfelt comments here, bless you all and thanks for your expressed sentiments. I'm lucky enough to have both of my folks still and although my Dad, who has always had an affection for cars, is quite ill these days it always makes him smile when I pull up in my GT. Coming from a blue collar back ground, my folks always put their kids first and were never really in a position to buy such a luxury item. Like a lot of you I'm sure, that is why it's great to hear stories of involving your folks in what a lot of us feel is our treasure. I hope I made sense trying to explain my thoughts here...Dan
