VW is soon coming out with a twin charge vehicle(I forget which model) that will have a super for low end grunt and a turbo for high end power. Seems like a good idea.
For years Mercedes and Mr2 have had electromagnetic clutches that allow the sc to free spin when not needed to reduce parasitic loss.
The GT does a similar thing with an air bypas valve that circulates air flow around the sc at vacuum condition.
