Has anybody tried to get an extended warranty for one of these?

They are not available from Ford on the GT

The Ford ESP Marketing Guide (page 2:1) says, "The following vehicles are not eligible for New or Used Extended Service Plans:

"Taxis, Crown Vic P70, Electric Vehicles, Tow Vehicles, Livery/Shuttle/Commuter, Mustang Cobra R, Ambulance Vehicles, Saleen Modified Vehicles, Stage 2 and Stage 3 Roush Modified Vehicles

"Complete eligibility requirements are noted in the ESP Operating Guide on pages 4:3 and 4:4."

The Ford ESP Operating Guide (page 4:4 and 4:5) says, "Non-Eligible Vehicles for New Plans:

"Taxis, Crown Victoria P70, liveries, emergency vehicles, tow vehicles, shuttles, vehicles used for rental or commuter vehicles, all competitive make incomplete vehicles, chassis cabs, cutaways, stripped chassis, vehicles used for competitive driving, racing, off-road use, delivery or rental vehicles, [a whole list of non-Ford vehicles], Mustang Cobra R models, all Roush Stage 2 and Stage 3 modified vehicles or Saleen modified vehicles, 4x2 equipped vehicles modified with 4x4/AWD capabilities, [more foreign stuff], electric vehicles, competitive make hybrid vehicles, competitve make compressed natural gas, liquid propane gas or competitive make flexible fuel vehicles, Branded Vehicles, any vehicles equipped with snow plows and any competitive make other manufacturers not listed on the ESP New Competitive Make Class Index."

The Ford GT is NOT excepted, so it is eligible. The problem is that many dealers re-insure their ESPs, which means that they are on the hook for repairs, so they CHOOSE not to write a plan for a Ford GT.

So, find a Ford or Lincoln-Mercury dealer that does NOT re-insure, and open up your check book.

(The dealer that I work for re-insures, so 'no, thank you.')

I got a letter in the mail from "Dealer Services." They offered me a 7year/100,000 mile extention on my warranty for $1,950.

I told them to send me the paperwork. Sounds to good to be true, but I'll let you know how the contract looks.

sounds like a deal...I'd sign on

They don't know what you have Fubar....they are just mass mailing anyone that didn't buy it originally...they will turn you down when they see it..if not tell me the dealer I will be there today to buy mine :)

I got a call about 2 weeks ago wanting to know why I hadn't brought my 06' Ford in for an oil change...and did I not get the 19.95 special in the mail...I said I do my own and why would you do mine for ~20 when the oil alone costs almost $100 bucks...he stuttered and then asked exactly what 06 Ford do you have? When I told him he was grateful because he would have taken it up the ass if I had brought it in :)

Anywhere near 2k would be a bargain. My local dealer was telling me about some of the repair costs they have encountered, and it sounds scary! Not many, but one that was 20+.

With my 250 miles so far, my Tungston is perfect. But longer term warranty insurance sounds attractive if it could be obtained at a reasonable price.

What would be reasonable? If we really believe in these cars, maybe we self insure after the first 36.

I will take one if it is for real

MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE TOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Uh, me four....

+1 here, times 2 actually.

I'm in!

I bet most of the dealers offering extended warranties have their own “captive” insurance companies. Tax dodge. (Google it).

I know it’s not a Ford deal. They are sending me their contract. When I get the particulars on who they are, I will research the company.

I know most Europeans cars use an outside insurance company to offer their extended warranties. So it might be a good deal.

Please keep us posted on what you find out. Thanks!

I would read the exclusions and exceptions carefully.

I would be very careful dealing with outside warranty companys (other than Ford) as many Ford Dealers won't honor them bacause of not knowing if they can collect their money. Be ware.

I read the fine print on the contract and it appears to have a $25k maximum liability cap.

Oh well. I keep my eyes open for something else.

$25k against a $35K+ engine..... for how much?

It would appear that IF it applies to GTs it would only be if they were purchased after July 14, 2006. Maybe DBK can confirm with his Ford contacts.

I just purchased a new 2005 so this warranty is n/a to my car.
