I just got a factory trickle charger. At least I think I did. Is it just a transformer/plug that goes into the wall socket connected to a cord with a cigarette lighter adapter plug? And I understand it shuts off when the battery is fully charged. Thanks.

All true. It has no indicator light (if it feels warm, it is charging) It should have come in a small nylon-like zip pouch. It cycles on and off automatically.
There are MANY threads on this item in the archives.
I have used mine for 3 winters now and it is working fine (2006, 2007, 2008 on now)
