HI all,

Taking my car to the All Ford Nationals in Carlisle next month. This is the first time I've hauled the GT and need advise on straps. Are the over the tire block straps adequate? Pretty sure this is how Reliable secures the GT as well. I also see the basket style block straps but don't know if they are necessary. Also, degree of pitch max on trailer door (I need extension ramps).

Thanks
Shawn

Over-the-tire straps are used by the GT Guy and the Reliable drivers I've seen. Me too. No problems, no marks on the wheels, and the car is held extremely secure without putting odd stresses on anything.

The basket might work fine, but I can't see where it has any benefits vs over-the-tire.

I would highly recommend these:

They were a very nice quality product that I used to haul my car over to the GT Garage.

Early on I did the through the wheel (lots of microfiber), but I find that e-track and a 3 point over the wheel is much better for me. So the trailer floor has e track front to back, and I have 3 sets of these (note, very similar to whats posted above)

The magic is this rolling idler (this is included in the package above, just hard to see the detail as to how it works.

Yeah, if you go with the over-the-tire and E-track you'll need an idler roller for each wheel's strap, otherwise since the GT is so low there's not enough room to crank the ratchet. Those Specracer posted at Truck N Tow are the first I've seen that include the idler. This isn't an E-track setup, but it's the clearest pic I could find showing the idler:

^^^ Exactly

Also if a strap falls off, for what ever reason (Ive done it, somehow), the other 3 still do not allow the car to move. Through the wheel you loose one, could be bad.

The idlers for the front wheels have a side benefit: Once you determine where your car needs to be for proper tongue weight you can leave then in place and when you drive in bump up against them then back up a few inches and you'll be in the right spot each time. If you use your trailer for other things / cars to where you need to remove or move them sometimes, you can mark your E-track so you know which slots to put them back in for the GT, and other slots for other cars as needed.
