Question

What is the purpose of (what I assume to be a ) chamber under the vent ? Is there any type of vent that doesnt use a hose clamp or an alternative fastening method ? Thanks !!

What is the purpose of the aluminum can under the filter?

What is the purpose of the aluminum can under the filter?
Good question, it is there for 2 reasons. First it is a place to install a baffle (just under the filter element). Further reducing the chance of any trans oil from splashing on the filter.

And the can is also a wide spot in the system that will promote the separation of air and oil. The gearbox can breath threw the filter element and the separated oil will flow back to the trans axle.

I feel it is a nice simple, elegant solution to a common problem.
