Guys had the car towed last week after the halfshaft incident. Now can not get the tow hook off the car. Any suggestions?

1st Q: Did they replace the bolts with Acufab's?
- IF Not - leave hook in place:wink

- IF So - bigger crowbar!:biggrin

Sorry - only advice I can contribute now (4 G&T's:cheers)

The time to drive in Toronto is limited, put the miles on - worry about the hook during the winter :thumbsup

I have had good luck with Breakfree oil. Spray some on the threads and wait a few hours then try to remove it. You might need to fabricate a tool to get some leverage on the eyelet.

Try hooking in a small pipe wrench for leverage. I was just looking at mine today and that is about the only tool I can think of that may get the angle you need the way it's mounted.

Does it look as if it is bent?.
Is the Flat washer portion tight against the receptacle?

try turning it the opposite way you would think that it turns. I had the same problem and had to look at the threads on another FGT towhook.

:shrug:shrug

"Auto" may be right -so check that 1st. But it seems unlikely the hook would be anything OTHER than "righty tighty, lefty loosey".

'Suggest you make a "T" bar with a 90 degree bend in the opposite end from the handle (of coarse!:rolleyes). You know the rest: insert the 90 deg "hook" in the eyelet, twist the "T" handle :lol, and it ought to be a piece of cake to remove the darn tow hook. :thumbsup (But, I WOULD use pen. oil of some kind on the tow hook 1st.)

'Wonder if maybe we ought to put "never seize" compound on these tow hooks before we use 'em?:shrug

Boy this was really bugging me so here I am at 4:20am dealing with this.
Madinc yes accufab all the way. Car feels to actually run smoother and less noise from the transaxle.
Sprayed some WD40 front and back of bolt. Let sit for 5 minutes or so. Yes the washer was flat against the wall and bolt was through the hole.
18" breakbar with a 45 % angle at one end and pulled HARD. Broke free!
By the way guys these are reverse thread. Left/ counter clockwise to tighten and Right/ clock wise to loosen. Opposite the righty-tighty, lefty-loosy rule.
Thx for the help.
Some times brute force is the only way. Who says you can't get a round peg into a square hole.:biggrin
Never take no for an answer!!
:cheers

Good advise, righty loosey---lefty tighty........PHD award goes to "Auto"
