Thanks Centerpunch. Setting TiVo now.

The show hasn't been on for months, and I was really hoping it would come back.

According to the Discovery Channel site

there are several episodes running back to back starting 7 pm thursday.
The "parachute into a car" episode also has a Ford GT segment, not sure if it was the prototype driven in Detroit, or the production version tested on their track in the UK.
Saw that last Sunday. Its actually about the cool and uncool wall. They concluded the car is seriously uncool, because of the owners that have one ! (eg Martin Brundle, jeremy Clarkson, etc..) They mentioned that the 28 owners (or thise who showed up) at the special owners party Ford UK orgnized, looked like an old boys club, hence the seriously uncool rating... Hmm.... Makes me think, Neill - were you there aswell ? :biggrin

I think serious bullshit, really....but brit fun, hey !?

I was at this event Jeremy Clarkson referred to in this Top Gear episode. It was a reception almost two years ago hosted by Ford of Great Britain for the twenty-eight people who Ford had selected from the (apparently 2,000) UK residents who had applied to purchase the car. The venue was a trendy and somewhat pretentious London bar/restaurant called Sketch. Clarkson was there and it was apparent that, unlike me, many of the other UK owners-to-be where pretty well known people in the UK. I found everyone I met that evening to be very nice and all were very excited about getting a GT.

I was closer than most to the details of Clarkson returning his GT last summer and thus have some understanding of the other side of that particular story. Based on this saga of the returned GT it is clear to me that most of the funny/inflamatory stuff on Top Gear is staged and/or exaggerated to make the show more interesting/humorous.

"....old school club....made me think of Neil..." Thanks! :wink

I think I posted before that, despite my very best efforts, I was not selected to be seven of nine and therefore not invited onto the holodeck with Rob! I got knocked off the list fairly early on in the proceedings - but was sent some nice literature and missed out on the pina colada at Sketch.

However I did have lunch with Clarkson in December and he told me about the GT, the DB9 loaner and the buy back. The 'cool wall' on Top Gear is not to be taken seriously - and the main reason the GT didn't make it was because Clarkson owns one himself and he admits he's just not cool which, as we might say, is ironic - and we find irony amusing!

I do recall that whilst Clarkson was trying to badger Ford into allocating him a GT every Ford on the cool wall was declared cool - it was pretty funny.

btw: The Top Gear shot of the GT spinning in slow motion through the low mist on the runway is just fabulous.
