I had breakfast at Goodwood this morning and got talking to the owner of this original below - thought you'd like to see it...

Thanks for sharing.

Excuse my ignorance but which version of the GT40 is that?

BTW, looks chilly!

It also has a Gurney style bubble.

I don't know if this is blasphemous but I like the new car better than the original appearance wise...

It was c-c-c-o-o-l-d-d-d!

I decided not to take my GT and took one of my Astons instead. This little yellow 40 was really very pretty - and the most amzing exhaust note, quite frightening!!

Ours look more menacing, the originals look cute and quick, but lack the width and height that make our look more purposeful somehow.

I'm not sure which version this was as I'm not expert enough on the 40's, I'm told it was original but as with all these things, I suspect there are few original parts on it. A bit like Grandpa's axe that's had 12 new handles and 5 new heads!

Were you disappointed your GT was home, seeing the GT40 there?

FGT4me,

That is a GT40 Mark I. The Mark I's originally ahd 298ci engines. The Mark II's won LeMans in 1966 going 1-2-3. They had 427ci NASCAR engines. You can tell the difference between the Mark I's and Mark II's by the extra sccops that are on the rear cowl of the Mark II's.

After some rules changes, the Mark I's were ressurected and won the 1968 and 1969 Lemans races, but I can't remember the engine size.

Allan - I was really disappointed not to have taken my GT, it would have stolen the show. Next time!!

Thanks for the info Eric.
The history of these models is intriguing.
