Steering column adjustment lever loose, now fixed

A few weeks ago I queried if anyone else had a loose steering column adjustment lever, and it didn't seem anyone else did. I looked in my shop manual, but it didn't address the adjuster. I finally got annoyed enough by it popping down and the steering wheel flopping down in my lap, that I just went out and fixed it.

Easy fix, took 10 minutes total: The plastic covers on the steering column have three screws on the bottom half. Those are Torx T-20 size. Remove them, then use your thumbnail to free the two tabs that hold the bottom half to the upper half. Remove bottom half (some wiggling required). Look at the adjustment lever and you will see that it pivots on a bolt that goes from the right side to the left side of the column. On the left end, there is a 10mm nut. Tighten it a few swings of the wrench, until the steering column stays rigidly put, and the lever is firm when pushed up. Put plastic covers back on. Go have a beer and write it up for the FGT Forum.

Now I feel better...

Too often, we don't hear how a problem was solved. Thanks for adding to the knowledge base. If it happened to your car, chances are it will happen to another.

And years from now some frustrated poor schmuck will be engaged in the exercise in futility known as "The Forum Search Function." :lol
