This press release went out today from the Foundation, pretty damn cool... Carroll is auctioning off for charity 66 signed copies of my book Go Like Hell. I figured I'd let members of the Forum know. Hope everybody's doing great!!

GARDENA, Calif. – Nov. 11, 2009 – The Carroll Shelby Foundation <http://www.carrollshelbyfoundation.org/> is offering 66 signed copies of “Go Like Hell – Ford, Ferrari, and Their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans.” The critically acclaimed book tells the remarkable story of how Carroll Shelby <http://www.carrollshelbyfoundation.org/solid_carroll.php> helped Henry Ford II, Lee Iacocca and the Ford company defeat mighty Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Each copy being offered by the Foundation has been signed by Carroll Shelby and the book’s author, A.J. Baime.

The books cost $225 each, with all proceeds benefitting the Carroll Shelby Foundation, which provides financial support for children to help overcome life-threatening health issues and promotes continuing education. The signed books are available at CarrollShelbyFoundation.org <http://www.carrollshelbyfoundation.org/> or by calling (310) 327-5072.

“This is a special book about an important time in American racing history,” said Shelby. “A.J. did an amazing job of telling the story of how we took on the prancing horse and shocked the world in France. Each of these autographed copies is a true collector’s item and will be sold to benefit the Foundation.”

The Foundation is offering 66 signed copies of the book to commemorate Ford’s victory at the 1966 24 Hour of Le Mans. Mark Bechtel of “Sports Illustrated” writes, “One of sports’ greatest grudge matches finally gets the treatment it deserves in A.J. Baime’s dramatic and always entertaining book that’s sure to appeal to anyone who enjoys a good underdog story.”

“My goal with ‘Go Like Hell’ was to remind sports fans of how intense the great Ford and Ferrari rivalry was,” explained Baime. “During my research, I quickly learned that it was the relentless nature of the individuals involved that made the Le Mans win possible. Carroll has continued that approach with his Foundation for nearly 20 years now, which is why I’m proud to partner with him to offer this limited number of signed books.”

That's weird. And not good! I sent an email, will see what's going on. So many good causes out there and it's getting near holiday time. Last year I gave some dough to the Iacocca Foundation. This year it'll be Shelby... Will get back to you on this. Thank you to everybody who's reading.

This book should be included with every Ford GT

When I was in the first grade I got a Matchbox Ford GT40 for a present. This was right after the 1966 LeMans. As a little boy I hardly new about the race but I loved that little car that you could see the engine through the back glass. Although Hot Wheels were the most popular cars with my buddies and I (and the Matchbox had the old style wheels and would not run on the Hot Wheels track) it was still my favorite.
I subsequently read about the GT40 as I grew up and became a car guy. When Ford announced the new car I went to see it at Ford Carlisle and could not believe it. Quite frankly I still feel that way every single time I go to the garage or sit behind the wheel.
I thought I knew the facts behind the car. But, I did not really know the story behind it all. This book is absolutely fantastic! I would have had it read in one sitting but for family life and 5th grade homework. This book should have been included with every GT or at least mandatory reading. The story and the legend of the Ford GT40 is in the heritage and blood line of the new car and it should be realized and appreciated by everyone. Thanks for a great job. KO

My story is almost identical to K-P's above. Remembering that car and the excitement even in the major press regarding the racing campaign's success is one of the main reasons I was so pumped when I heard they were going to resurrect the car for '05 and '06, and a reason I'm so glad I bought mine. Brings back the kid in me all the time!

K-P good luck with your studies! From the great way you write I would have thought you had gotten beyond the 5th grade! :lol

Ordered mine the day it was posted here. Number 7/66 which is cool, since I have 007 serial number X1. (Ordered a Shelby autographed copy of "Shelby Ford GT" at the same time). I must admit, I was late to the GT game and have been trying to catch up on the history of the car since I got mine this year. Not finished reading the book yet, but so far it's painting a nice picture of the players involved and I look forward to my nightly reading time.

:thumbsup That is very cool to get a number that you can relate to your car #.
