Hello Gentlemen. Let me first start out by saying I do not have a Ford GT. I have been a member on this forum for years, but couldn't get back in, so I re registered. I have spent many many hours reading about the transaxle and clutch for the car. I have been a member and forum moderator over on the GT40s website for 23 years. I have purchased (2) new Ricardo transaxles. One, was gone through by RPM transmissions in Indiana. It was inspected for the proper lazer welds on the hubs, the gears were cyrogenically treated , everything was inspected for cracks, the sliders were hand fit to the shafts, and it was run in to assure proper shifting. The second transaxle will be sent to Ron McCall for inspection, and proper gear treatment.
I am building a RCR LolaT70MK3B replica. This is the engine that was just built for it.
I am a very firm believer that Ford designed the best transaxle for my use, and yours as well. I am looking to purchase a clutch for this project. Because it only weighs around 2800 pounds and only has 912hp tops, I think the factory one would work fine. If I had to upgrade to a Spec, I would have the flywheel extra which I would have no use for. I tried to order a factory one (4G7Z-7B546-BB) from Tasca Ford for $1369.85, but because I'm not a owner they won't sell it to me. So far the best price I gave found at a non dealer is $2000.00. Any suggestions would be welcome.
I have read where there was some chaffing of the shift cable due to the ridge on the top of the transaxle, Would it sound reasonable to smooth and polish this area to possibly prevent any issues down the road ??
