Let's say one buys a new early 2005 car now with 3 delivery miles. It's put in a collection and accumulates say 500 miles over the next 5 yrs. At that point, the rear seal starts to leak and the problem is identified as the well know crankshaft issue with the first 250 or so cars. Would Ford cover the cost of the repair?

Thanks.

Dave

The Ford warranty is 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Therefore, in your example of a low mileage car that sits for 5 years and develops an oil leak, Ford would not fix it at no cost to the owner under the warranty as the warranty would have expired 2 years earlier, regardless of the low (500) miles on the clock. usmcfred

I remember a previous post stating that NEW cars sold after 7/14/06 carry a 5yr. warranty per Ford HQ. :banana

Warranty starts from when the car is titled not when produced.

I haven't heard anything about a warranty extension by Ford from 3 to 5 years from date of service. My 2006 FGT was purchased in October and the warranty info in the owners package specifically stated 3 years/36,000 with free roadside assistance while the warranty was still in force. usmcfred

I am sorry to hear that the extended drive train warranty does not apply to the the GT. The prior post I was referring to stated it was verified with Hotline, Ford Customer Service, and Ford HQ. :confused

It is my understanding that the warranty begins on the "date of service" when the vehicle is sold and delivered by the selling dealer - not the date it is titled. Many title registration dates are substantially after the date the vehicle is sold and leaves the dealer, especially if it happens to be sold to another dealer.

If sold to another dealer a car is not titled. Title means placed in service according to Ford. Title also means the car in question has been sold and money changed hands.

If a Dealer sells it to another Dealer, ex dealer trade or straight sell to an other dealer, then it is not reported "sold" by either dealer, it is just transfered into the dealers invintory. the car is only reported "sold" by the selling dealer when the car is delivered to the end user, money's have been exchanged and the the application for title has been submitted.

I hope this clears things up,

Keith

Yes, that was me. I called and unsolicited was told its been extended. I was a bit suprised but they looked up my sale date, and the the extension date.

Only way we will know is sometime in Oct. 2008 when someone rolls in first post warranty repair

Warranty start

Warranty starts at (in service date) date first retail customer is sold car. When date sent in to Ford Motor Co. of first retail sale. not when registered. Warranty 3yrs 36,000 miles. Tomy Hamon-Dealer:wink

Warranty Start Date

The warranty start date is the date the dealer reports it to Ford as being sold to a retail customer. For 2006 models sold after July 14, 2006, the warranty is 3/36,000 for the entire car and 5/60,000 on the powertrain. I would assume that would include the GT as well. As for a defect beyond warranty, you would have to ask your dealer for a possible partial goodwill assistance on the cost of the repair. Each case is decided on an individaul basis based on a lot of parameters; like does it have ESP, maintenance records, good customer, etc. etc..

We got ice instead of snow. I have about 2 inches on ice. Northwest of us they will get up to 10 inches of snow.

If you are in NYC area come visit us at Bob Idas with the GTGuy next weekend, Feb 23.

Regards

Dave

Gerry, there is no longer warranty on the drivetrain for '06 models. Please read the previous posts.

2006 GT powertrain warranty

I found some additional information on this topic. Here are the words I found:

A 2006 Model Year Ford or Mercury vehicle sold on or after July 14, 2006 and on or before October 2, 2006 will be covered by a complementary 5 years / 60,000 miles Ford ESP PowertrainCARE Extended Service Contract with a $100 deductible.

It does not exclude GT, but it doesn't clarify GT either. If we had a VIN for a 2006 sold between these dates, we could check to see what the coverage is for that vehicle.
