PSA: Check your clamshell release cables

I was with Howard and Gary today and wanted to show them my super awesome PCV catchcan. I flip the clamshell latch and the driver's side latch doesn't release. Bummer.

I removed the release latch in the cabin and by sheer good luck I was able to wiggle the cable back and forth and got it to catch just enough to release the latch. The retaining bushing at the end of the cable disintegrated and allowed the ball end of the cable to fall off the latch mechanism. The retaining bushing on the passenger side was getting ready to fail too. I was lucky. I can't imagine what it would've been like to lift the clamshell if the latch was stuck. The clamshell ajar switch is removed in the picture.

You must live directly under a hole in the ozone layer.

Looking forward to seeing your fail-safe fix.

My car has much more power than yours and,as a result, generates more heat.

I'm going to safety wire or zip tie the cable end to the latch.

Thanks for sharing..

Good to know. Thanks!

I'm not allowed to sell on this site but if I can help I'm blowing out brand new OEM cable and inside latch assemblies for $50.00 shipped to your door. continental U.S. 48 states only. PM me if interested. Note: price is $59 if you go thru ebay due to all the fees. thanks
