2008 Cayenne Turbo

Over the weekend we picked the wife up a new 2008 Porsche Cayenne Turbo. I haven't got to drive it much (she drove it home 200 miles), but from what I have, it feels pretty impressive. I know this is a little off subject, I was just wondering if any of you guys have experience with these and what I can expect. This is our first Porsche.

My wife drives a 2004 Cayenne Turbo we bought new. Great vehicle that does everything well including towing the race car or boat. I test drove the new MY08 and it is an improvement in terms of power and ride. You'll love it.

My wife had the first year (I believe 2004?) without question the WORSE car we have ever owned. In fact we invoked the CA 'lemon law' and made Porsche AG take it back. We went thru 3 sets of tires, startting issues, electrical issues and it was TERRIBLE in the snow. What can I say a LEMON. Hope you have better luck.

I believe 2003 was the first year of production.

We are enjoying ownership of our 2004 Cayenne S, and are at 52,000 miles now. I have offroaded it through Gorman, Hollister, Azusa, and done overnight trips through Old Mojave Road.

It is impressive in its off road capability - with a nice 4WD system. It is a bit heavy for on road speed, but has nice handling dynamics for a mid size SUV.

The second row is tight, and the rear cargo space is downright terrible. The park distance control system is annoying - but aren't they all. Factory navigation is good, compared to other european and american systems I have experienced.

My wife was recently rear ended, and the Cayenne S received little damage, but the japanese import that hit her was in bad shape (hood smashed). The Cayenne is solid and feels like a tank. There have been little minor issues, but Porsche pre-emptively takes care of a lot of issues, issues that other manufacturers wouldn't even likely acknowledge or notice.

Maintenance is not cheap. I will miss the Cayenne S, but we may transition to a new BMW X5 4.8i, in early 2008, due to the BMW maintenance program. I personally feel the Cayenne S is a nice and well built vehicle.

Enjoy your 2008 Turbo. I know I would love it. The Cayenne S is my wife's primary driver.

Of course, it cleans up nicely, and it may get used for its original design purpose, but that doesn't mean that it is ever abused.

Great quality of paint.

Yeah, I had to have confidence in the electrical system, to be able to live out of it in the desert trips. It's had a harder life than most, but has done well. Our X5, if we decide to swap, will have a much easier life - but I am worried about buying a first year vehicle - so I hope the 2009 X5's will come out soon.

I didn't dare ask for warranty replacement when I saw these unusual bulges on two of my tires in the Mojave desert...Of course, it wasn't the vehicle's fault.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Unfortunately everyone builds an occasional lemon, including Porsche. Our Cayenne Turbo is also 2004 and have not had any significant problems in 45,000 miles of driving. I normally don't keep any vehicle this long but it's been so supremely reliable and fun to drive that it's still with us. BTW, with the proper tires it is awesome in the snow and I should know since we get quite a bit here in Upstate NY.

Mines seem lots of deep snow and blizzards but no deserts. Certainly these things are built like tanks. But I agree the rear storage area is meager and the new X5 is appealing. I hope they drive better than the older design and am contemplating it as our next babymobile.
