Pipes - Accu vs Heffner vs Ida?

Joe,

Does this pass emissions tests in your state?

Thanks,

Rob
I believe it will. I'll find out for sure in August.

I'am still trying to decide which exhaust system I should get , Question, how does the Ford racing exhaust compare to these other systems....

At last summers Rally we listned to all the systems as their owners revved up the cars and we stood behind them. The one I did not hear was the Ford Racing Headers but I found an owner with them and he graciously agreed to fire up his car for me. At idle it sounded great as I walked around to the back of the car about 15 feet behind it. The owner stomped on the gas and the car tached up to about 5000 RPM instantly. My body recoiled like I had been hit with a shotgun blast and I clamped my hands to my ears but the damage was done. I kid you not when I say my hearing has never recovered. My ears ring to this day and my high frequency hearing is irreparably damaged. They made my 427 Cobra sound like a sewing machine. I decided not to buy those.:bored

As it happens, I did use the baffles when I put the Heffner catback in my car... I've not done a side-by-side comparison... Maybe at Indy?

I had an owner rap his FRE System for me as well and my eardrums "itched and rang" for the rest of the day. I have the MMP pipe with custom tips. The quality and fit it first class.

I look forward to hearing all the different pipes at the upcoming rally. Having seen the Heffner, Accufab, MMP and IDA they for the most part look very similar (as I recall one has a cross-over). I will be very surprised it there is a big differecne in sound.

Joe,

can you comment on your Heffner system. How is the sound compared to stock or other systems you may have heard. Any drone at highway speeds?

Hello Gene,

Sadly, only got to drive the car 3 days before heading out of town for an extended business trip...

Based on 3 days / ~300 miles, I would say:

1. On acceleration, definitely louder than stock. Even a colleague at work asked what I'd done after "hurrying" away from the office one day...

2. Around town or on the highway, only a slight increase in exhaust tone / noise under "normal" driving conditions.

3. No noticable "drone" at all (my side-piped Viper was bad!). More road noise from tires than exhaust (stock or Heffner) cruising at 60 - 80 on the highway.

4. Throatier / meaner sound is just EXACTLY what I'd hope for.

After listening to the stickey wave files in the tech section I like the throaty sound of the Accufab. The Tubi sounded the most exotic as reported in that post. For those that did not look for the stickey, it is at the top of the tech section. "Rally exhaust compilation". Oh and turn it up, bet you can't listen just once.

For any that may not have heard a clip of our exhaust here is a link.
