What config for tie downs etc? Final cost (if you don't mind sharing)

Put a block of wood under the front wheel of the trailer and crank it up to a slight incline then winch GT in , where you want it, then place a wedge behind rear wheel . Lower trailer and tie down..

Ratchet straps through front wheels and around rear LCAs (or through wheels) to D-rings on the floor. Wheel stops in the front that slide on a track. Final cost 20 large. Why so expensive? All aluminum (~ 3X the cost of steel). $500 (Tire Rack) worth of premium tires. $250 worth of marine grade deep cycle battery. Warn winch. Electric tongue lift. Alloy wheels. Probably most important...you don't know you're towing anything. Rock steady at 70-80. Still....why so expensive? I don't know, but these guys have been doing it for a long time and have pretty much perfected it. The ability to open the driver door (and sit in the shade of the opened trailer doors) nailed it for me.

Now all you need to complete the look is a raptor to tow it with.
Congrats. I've always wanted one of these

Or, if hooked to the tow vehicle, drive the rear wheels of the tow up on 6x6's or 4x4's.

Very Nice set up, and gotta love those long ramps!!!

That is a nice setup.... I'm thinking of upgrading my trailor for an aluminum unit...any idea what the weight of your trailor is exactly as you've equipped it sans gt?

Took this pic in '07. Carry a set of rhino ramps to help the angle. :thumbsup

E-Track

Nice warm day today...a good day to get some practice loading the new trailer. Very easy for one person using the winch, with one exception. I wanted a wireless controller, but I was told the cable controller was plenty long. Well, it is not nearly long enough. The car pulled in nicely, but I could see it was getting to the balance point where, when the weight shifted forward, the car would roll to the front of the trailer. The controller cable was barely long enough for me to sit in the car and reach way forward out the window to operate the controller and have my foot over the brake. So...I will be getting a wireless controller after all. Alternatively, I could have parked on a hill, but I did not have a hill. Wireless is the way to go for one person operation. The chin spoiler cleared the ramps by about 1/2 inch. Nothing else on the bottom came close to touching.

Xcentric,

Your Trailex is a twin to mine. I pull my GT in with the winch using the cable connected controller that you have. I kneel in the front of the trailer and when my GT goes past the center of balance and the weight shift causes it to roll forward I just stop it with one hand on the front bumper. It is rolling so slow that it takes very little effort to stop it and you need to be in there anyway to secure the front wheels. I had E-Track strips mounted on my trailer floor so I can secure the wheels with over the tire straps which are faster and don't touch the wheels. Cheers.

Thanks Chip! I'll give that technique a try.

Nice broom, Chip! I'd stow it somewhere else though....

I'd bet He only rides it on full moon nights

Ralphie,

FlorIdahoChris has a Trailex as well and he was the guy who turned me on to the necessity of a broom in these trailers. The ramps stow under the trailer and after a long trip they are covered with dirt and small stones. So when you pull them out and attach them you need to sweep them off before driving your stickey Hoosier R-6 tire shod GT down them. If you don't those stones jam in the nylon runners on the tracks when you slide the ramps back in and make the ramps really hard to get in or out. Every Trailex needs to have a broom and you gotta use it every time you unload. Cheers.

I wish Trailex and Sloan would get together and build an aluminum enclosed roll back trailer. Don't need no stinkin ramps. And there is no 'weight transfer point' to worry about.

Would love the security and clean of an enclosed trailer with the ease of loading of the roll back. Surprised no one makes such a trailer.

Gary,

As always, great information and pictures. Thanks for sharing, including the price and option specifications. I am(have) putting(put) enough money into transportation to Rallys to justify having one. The problem is storage. Don't have a covered area, and that's a must for protection.

What is the trailer length, and is there enough room for a set of track wheels and tires? What is the clearance between the GT door bottom and the trailer opening?

Best of luck with the trailer and your relo to FL. Looks like a great place. I guess we know how the GT will be getting to FL in style.
