Yesterday, during my annual Christmas cruise to the beach, I had the pleasure of being alone on a 10 mile deserted highway; basically, God, myself, my car, a couple of seagulls…oh, and a NY State Trooper.

I got nailed doing 84 in a 55. The cop boasted about all his gadgets and how he has a vendetta against ‘’all you Ferrari guys’.

Now, I am not one of these gents with a death wish, but we all know what 84 is for these cars.

I am now convinced I need to counter-gadget the gadgets so have begun looking at some of the new kit.

Has anyone tried the Passport 9500i yet?

Dino, sorry to hear about your ticket.

My son has the 9500i in his Porsche 997 Twin turbo and I can tell you it is the best one you can get. On our 375 mile drive on Interstate 5 from LA yesterday it saved us at least 2 times from the CHP. That thing alerts you of radar miles before you even see anything. He bought me one for christmas for my GT.

Dino, I gather you don't have any measures now? I've not tried the 9500i; however, I can tell you that I've been thrilled with the PassportSRX on my RENNtech. The antenna and transreceivers are all remote mounted outside of the vehicle with just a few inch long and half inch wide controller unit discretely mounted on the inside of the armrest storage bin. I have a very small warning light at the base of the windshield with a mute button mounted on the dash. I picked up my car in Boston a few years ago and drove it to San Francisco. Dozens of other cars were pulled over throughout my drive while I've yet to be ticketed (knock on wood). I can tell you the laser shifting technology works.

I couldn't quickly find a shop to install this on my FGT so have the V1 (which by all accounts is very effective). Though I've not been ticketed, I'm concerned that I lack laser diffussing counter measures. I plan to replace the V1 with the SRX and install the display controller in the armrest storage bin and get rid of the big unit suction cupped to the windshield.

Dino -
I bought the Passport 9500i but have not used it with the GT yet, as it came the day after I put the car away for the winter. I have tried it out with my truck and it seems to be quite sensitive and has some gps features that let's it memorize known non-police locations so that it doesn't sound off when you mark them. However, after reading in another thread, it seems the Valentine 1 is quite popular with other GT owners, and can be connected to the light power for the rear view mirror. I didn't know about this feature before I bought the 9500i, and might have gone the Valentine way if I had known. I'm not a fan of coil cords hanging down to the lighter socket.

See the Radar/Laser Thread in the Ford GT Owners section for more info.

I have an Escort Solo S2 which seems pretty good....

The valentine saved me at least 5 times this weekend. Going to and coming back from mammoth. The arrows are awesome. Especially when they are coming from behind.

Look for the thread about installing the V1. It applies to all detectors. Very easy to run a line from the fuse box in the passenger footwell to the mirror. Take two screws out that hold on sunvisor and voila!

Thanks men, all very informative and helpful.

If weather allows I will be out on New Years morning checking for radar traps.

Happy New Year!!!!

Please tell me more about the Blinder.

I have the new 9500 hardwired from my rear view mirror and like it. I like the gps tracker that gives your speed when a radar is hitting you. I don't like the voice announce, and just haven't gotten around to disabling it. I had the 8500 before, and it is just as good for a little less money.

I have tried the Valentine one twice, and both times sent it back because of so many false signals. Learned later to leave it in the L or logic setting for less mall door signals etc.

:thumbsup What did you use to hardwire it to the mirror power? Is there a through connector with a tap-off for the radar detector?
