Oil filter help

Being an overly zealous person I tend to do most if not all of my own work on my cars. With that being said I built a database for parts on my lotus and am in the process of doing the same on the GT.

I found that it was much cheaper to buy the toyota parts for the elise rather than the same from the lotus dealer... then I just started sourcing them from the oem company.

Like I said, I am now doing the same for the GT and am looking to confirm the oil filter sku number from mann. It seems to be the same filter that BMW uses on the 3.0/and 2.5 Z4. If that is the case then I can get filters for 8.50 a pc and get a major break on them in a case. Also have found a great source for OEM oil and other parts.

Anyone interested?

BTW... it was great meeting you guys in Indy.

Steve

'$7.95 from bavauto.com ... BMW #11421427908 (that's Mann's # HU 925/4x)

(and $7.95 is just ordering 3 ... didn't even ask about a case.)

Mann Oil Filters

Steve-
This topic has been discussed in several previous threads. Try a search.

The Mann (HU925/4X) filter is identical to the unit sold in the Motorcraft (FL-2024) box. Same hardware, filter, o-ring etc. Considerable savings buying the Mann unit.

Oil, stay with the Motorcraft 5W-50 fully synthetic as Ford spec recommends.

german filters, $4.65

mann filters total with shipping cost included ... 7.24 a pc. if buy a case then it drops to 6.45.

motorcraft oil is made for ford by conoco/philips petro. that is per a good cXX level contact of mine at cp. can get that same spec oil for 5.50 a quart better in bulk.

I'm looking to streamline my store room .... so thats just my two cents.

thanks
Steve

Thanks, Mr. Pockets. I just ordered a few.

Steve, when you get ready to order, I'll take a case or two of filters and oil. I can drive down to pick them up. Frank

Any Ford dealer. That's were I got mine.

One more time, German Filters, $4.65, $4.10 if you buy 10

The 'official' Ford filter (for want of a better description) is not particularly expensive in any event is it?

Aaaaaaaaaaah! The logical, baseline, 'reasoned' approach to 'filter economics!:biggrin :thumbsup

Well, you know, I wasn't being cheeky or anything, but it just seems a teeny bit 'spoiling the ship for a h'aporth of tar' to save a couple of Dollars on what is a cheap part to begin with.

Cheeky", "Smeeky"! Your stmt was right on! The simple 'matter-of-factness' of it just put me on the floor!:biggrin:lol

Seems I remember some Ford dealers charging $30.00 for their filters. What's smart, what's dumb?

I think Neil was referring to the $7.95 vs. $4.65, etc., paul. :biggrin

I was anyway!:lol

I used a mann filter purchased from Germanfilters.com. It may have been my fault by overtightening the cover, but my oil pressure read dangerously low. I went to an Autozone and purchased an STP filter for a BMW 330 and replaced the filter. Oil pressure is fine now.

I'll try another filter in the case I bought and I will check how tight I screw down the cover. If the oil pressure is low I will have 8 remaining filters for sale for $1 each.

7.95 is a confirmed Mann part from Mann. Not a part shipped from HK with a Mann label on it. My thought was to set up a supply chain outside of Ford's dealer network. I called three dealers for an oil filter and got three different price quotes. Just because we drive a GT does not mean we have "screw me" on our foreheads and I am tired of being quoted rape me prices because the dealers are hurting for cash. ok I'm venting a bit here.... :wink

just my two cents.
