Trying to help a friend identify this car. He was told it was a 1961 Jaguar Cougar. I had never heard of this. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance. I know there are a bunch of car nuts here. This is the only picture I have.

I Googled "cougar" on a couple Jag 'sites and got ZIP.

(Only thing that pops up is the Mercury C.)

This is a Cougar. It is a Cougar body on a Jaguar frame. All the components are standard Jag, I don't remember the model they used for the base car. I almost bought one a few months ago from a dealer in Santa Monica. I can go back to the dealer and find out what the base Jaguar was if that will help. I also tried to find other versions of the cougar and turned up nothing, I am surprised to see another one. The dealer is Cars With Class - 1115 Wilshire Blvd, Santa Monica, CA (310) 656-3444

Thank you Edson,
I will pass the info on to my friend. No need to go ask the dealer, but I appreciate the offer. He can call if he wishes. We were totally stumped, then I knew someone here would know. You guys are amazing. :cheers

Only just caught this - yes a Kougar Jaguar, although very similar looking to the Maserati and Alfa's from the mid 1930's (the CM's and 8C's). The HWM Jag too is similar.

I believe there were 250 Kougar Jaguars produced, of which, 14 were exported to America (many more are there now I suspect). Originally an XK engine either 3.8 or 4.2 DOHC 6CYL engine with E Type suspension.

Many Thanks Neilda!!! It is amazing the difference it makes when you spell Kougar witha K instead of a C when you Google it. Pockets knew that you would know,
