I lowered my GT to 27" in the front (down 1/2" in the back) using the T&A kit, then took it on my favorite canyon drive to test it out. The camber has not been adjusted yet, but it was close enough for a quick romp.
The previous king of this drive for me was my NSX coupe, which I have since sold. I find myself comparing all of my cars to the NSX; it really is that good. A little down on power, but such a sweet experience. Here are my observations of the GT now that it has been lowered:
1. I love it! The lower center of gravity is immediately apparant. The steering feels more immediate and responsive, suspension feels tighter, just the way I like it. (I assume this is because the factory spring has more preload now).Feels more like the F430 I tested recently. When I get the camber dialed in, it should be even better. Just feels more nimble and light on its feet -- which makes the modification totally worth it for me.
2. Maybe it's just my imagination, but the outward visibility has changed -- the car really does "feel" lower, and smaller on the road. The road below the nose reminds me of a video game. Feels like my NSX--that is, until I nudge the loud pedal. Then it doesn't fell anything like that little six banger.
3. It got dark on the way home, and I immediately realized that I need to adjust the headlights. Had to use the brights to see where I was going.
4. The car looks incredible. I can't help but think this is the way Ford would have wanted it had it not been for ground clearance/bumper height restrictions. When I look at the pictures of my car before, I looks like a four wheel drive to me. My wife, of course, says she can't tell the difference, and wonders what I'm so excited about. :bored
5. No ground clearance issues yet. I drove about 90 miles through hill and dale, and no worries.
