I have my FGT always plugged into a Battery Tender that is plugged into a high joule low voltage surge protector.

I typically unplug everything until after the storms are over.

I was wondering what everyone else does.

Do you use a surge protector or plug directly into the wall?

Unplug during storms?

If I am out of town and a lightning storm hits, how much of a risk is there?

I have both of my CTEK's plugged into surge protected outlets, rather be safe than fried!

My home has a whole house generator (runs on a Ford 5.4 litre engine) and whole house surge protectors in the main panels. My cars charge in power failures, my garage doors, garage lighting etc....and most important of all, my beer coolers work at all times! Nuclear holocausts can't stop the power here!

I'm glad to hear you Canadians are preparing well for the Apocalypse, but since you guys have no good guns, we are just going to come North and take it all.

Please install a couple more big screen TVs and a walk-in freezer.

No walk-in freezer, but a bunch of 70" screens. Don't come in winter - cuz I'm betting you won't survive the 6' snow banks with the -40 temps. See now, that's where we have the advantage over you FL guys! Oh, and our cars don't rot from saltwater either! Anyway, life sucks up here in Quebec...I hate it and have mentioned in the past here that we wanna move down to FL. I can git me a gun with a carrying permit there and be a Florida hillbilly!!! :)

Seriously though, nothing like a whole house genset - we go out here a good 20 hours a year. Try that in -30 or +90! Nice to know I don't generally even have a clue as to when it happens because I don't feel it. Only way I know is by checking the genset run logs! Apparently, Ford motors are good for more than just running cars!! Thinking if I S/C mine, I can make more power and light up the entire block! LOL
