Hi,

I am a brand new to both this board and a Blue, four option 2006 FGT.

While driving 10 mph today the door ajar sound and light came on. I opened and reclosed the door while moving. The sound and light continued. I stopped the car and opened the driver's door and a small piece of black, broken plastic fell on my head. I realized that it came from a black plastic gasket (for lack of better words) directly above the driver's head attached to the door. It appears to receive two ears (for lack of better words) attached to the centerline of the roof when the door is fully closed.

Now the chime for the door ajar light goes off non stop, but not the door ajar light itself.

Can anyone please help me understand why this happened and where I can go to replace the gasket part?

Thank you in advance for any help!

Regards,

John

Its common for that black plastic part that is attached to the roof to crack. At least mine did. Its a cheap part. Give Torrie a shout to get it ordered.

Not sure about the chime. Are you sure its the drivers door and not the clamshell or hood?

Check your front bonnet closure - that may be the source of the door ajar signal.

I agree, if both the doors are tight then it would most likely be the rear clam shell or the front storage compartment latches either aren't completely latched or out of adjustment.

I did the same - broke the receivers for the tounges on the center roof...

Cost to repair ~$35 three years ago via Torrie. Today $???

Lessons learned - dont open the door of the FGT while moving as the air flow will cause the door to torque causing the missalignment on the roof guides when you try to close the door.

BTW - see if your windshield wipers only work one speed - if so front "bonne"t isn't closed all the way...

Door ajar light is most likely front bonnet as already stated. Yes, that part is not very expensive. Lesson learned, never open and close door on GT when moving. Damage could have been worse. I have seen the tops of doors dented, gouged, etc.

Thank you for all the quick replies. I will check the bonnet tomorrow night. the next time I will be able to see the GT. Can anyone tell me where to order the part from and what it is called?

Thanks for the referrals guy's I am getting John handled now.

OK, thanx for everyone's help. Part is ordered! Thank you Torrie.

John

Glad to be of service John !

That's a very common problem, but it can be a little confusing at times because it doesn't necessarily show up right away - sometimes it can be days or many miles after you've last opened and closed it, and that's why it's natural to think that the light indicates a door ajar.

I've found that if I close the bonnet by pushing down firmly right over the actual latch when I close it, I don't have the light problem. Use two hands, one to lower it near to the closed position, and the other to push down over the latch. Be careful not to push too hard though - just the right "calibrated" push will do.

Nothing bad is going to happen with the light on anyway, so it can always wait until it's convenient to stop to remedy the problem.

Is it one speed or failure to return to the proper rest position. When my front boot was open, the windshield wipers would not return to the proper resting position... maybe both (weird problem either way).

I got to the GT tonight, work got in the way all day, and upon starting it up I could not get the light or sound to activate. I should have tried putting it in gear, but did not. No news is good news! Thanx for all your help. Much appreciated.

mark, when mine was open & when you hit the WS switch it was fast mode only... when off went back to rest.... Gremlins?
