We had a wonderfull time at Cars & Coffee yesterday. During the show we were handed a flyer to come by The Drivers Source! Never heard of it but a bunch of the Cobra friends were up for a drive and they were showing some of their collection. The Drivers Source is a neat place. It is a Sales/Repair/Storage facility for all types car but mostly exotics. They treated us to some brunch and then a tour of their facility. The showroom and repair facility are self explanatory. The "Vault" is a two story warehouse with a ton of security and where they store some of the neatest cars I have had the pleasure to see. In there we saw a Rahal Indy car, several Lambo's, Ferrari's, Shelby GT500 and a new 2005 Black/Silver Ford GT. Never been titled or inspected and was looking fabulos. I wonder who the owner of this car is? Great cars in here and about 75% were individually owned. The final stop was the repair facility, when they opened the door there it was. A 1965 MK III Blue w/white stripe Ford GT. S/N #1065. The owner said they had it and an original cobra at our premier car show this year "Keels & Wheels" which Shelby was supposed to be at but had to cancel late because of health issues. The history is pretty non-descript in that it was one of the Showroom cars. It was sent from dealership to dealership for exhibition. They were in the process of rebuilding the engine, original block, and cleaning up the rear suspension. It was a right hand drive model. Owner said he had it valued at 1 1/2 million. It was pretty neat to just be close to an original. I really enjoyed that it was in pieces. You can see how the cars were built to quick change all the parts during a race. Just thought I would share this with you.

Do you have any pictures to post of the GT?

Rockstar,

I am normally the guy with the camera at every event. But this time no! A cobra friend had his and I am waiting for him to e-mail me some. The car was a medium/light blue. Owner did say it had been repainted and I guess it was a different color before. I know I know rule is no pictures it may not have happened.:lol

Thanks Tomy,

That is the car we saw this weekend. It had been completely disassembled from the rear bulk head. The rest of the car was fine, but the owner said they wanted to refresh the engine and clean up the suspension.

Thanks again

Larry

Only other Ford GT 40 I've seen in a collection in Texas. Farmers Branch, Texas Auto collection of Sam Pack. Street Model RH Drive with very low mileage.

Mark I

What a beautiful car! I dream of owning an original GT40 someday. This car is not a Mark III however. It is the MUCH prettier Mark I road car. The Mark III had an ungainly long rear deck and 4 round headlights under the clear headlamp cover. The last auction sale price of this particular car was for $436,000. It's probably worth over $1,000,000 today.

We all expect a ride when you get one.

Hey Tug,
As you know I am in Houston on business pretty regularly, any idea how a guy gets to see the cars the Drivers Source has ?

Thanks

Steve
