Guys been here only a few days. Great group with lots of advise and help. :thumbsup Thank you.
In this same spirit I see many GTs on ebay for sale. They all state shipping "to Canada check item ...
These car are NOT ALLOWED in Canada based on the Registrar of Imported Vehicles web site--www.riv.ca.
Look at the list under Ford. It states that 2006 and 2005 Ford GT are "INADMISSABLE" into Canada. Why?? I don't know.
Buyer Beware.

They are inadmissable because they do not have the modified bumpers to meet Canadian specs. Other than the bumpers there is no difference - except of course they are faster in this cooler air :biggrin

:cheers

...plus different speedo and daytime running headlights. Mine was imported with the optional paint, which makes the car invisible to belligerent police. So far, only smiles and thumbs up - no tix!

From what I understand even if one was to make the changes they still wouldn't let them in.

You are correct - unless it is on the RIV "approved" list it is supposed to impossible. However, I was told by a big dealer in TO that it is not impossible. But he would not share with me the 'trick' of how to get one in. Maybe you have to be a politician! :ack

A representative at R.I.V dictated me a letter in early 2006 that required signing by Ford, giving permission for the GT's importation to Canada.

I then spoke with someone at Ford head office - on the likelyhood of getting Ford's blessing - only to get a 70% probability assurance, and an only if every Canadian car had been sold.

I would love a copy of that letter. Thanks

I'll be in my office Monday. Talk to you then.

two things;

1, was mentioned somewhere that canadian cars could not be resold in the
states, is this right?

2, can you canada owners freely drive down into the states ?.

thanx

shesgotlegs would like to see the letter as well.
Jasper we can drive to the states. I haven't heard about selling CDN cars in to the US.
I've heard about a canadian registering his car in the US. He had a US company and address. Don't think he will be able to put canadian plates on it though. Time will tell.

Canadian cars built prior to august may be sold in the states. The laws in the States that prohibited the sale of Ford gts in the states apply to Canadian cars built after the law change so the "second" allocation of vehicles to Canada cannot be sold in the states. The "first" wave of allocations can. The reason the Canadian cars were built last because after the crash test law change Ford gts no longer met regulation so the factory built cars after that date are for Canada only. Fords way of selling a few more before shutting down production.

"THIS VEH. NOT INTENDED FOR SALE OR RIGISTRATION IN US". Capitalized as shown on form.

Back in the spring I reached Dennis of the Registrar of Imported Vehicles ( www.riv.ca ) at 1 888 848 8240. His email is [email protected] - attention Dennis.

Dennis stated that the letter must come from the brass at Ford and directed to R.I.V ( 405 The Westmall, Toronto, Ontario, M9C 5K7 Canada ) stating that the car is admissable for importation to Canada ( allowable by Ford ) and that the following modifications ( as indicated by Multimatic Inc. in Markham Ontario Canada, phone 905 470 0025 and ask for Ho Wang - who was involved with Ford and the GT's Canadianization ) need to be done to comply with Transport Canada: A. Front bumper foam; B. Secondary rear bumper. C. Daytime running lights ( which by the way is a simple computer software revision that a dealer can do ). D. French language labels. E. Gauges ( which I don't understand since the only difference seems to be the use of symbols for ie. fuel, temp etc. rather than the actual words fuel, temp etc). Peculiarily, the GT was not required to undergo a speedometer and odometer change.

As a side note, Multimatic Inc. may be willing to do the work and I just put a call into my contact at R.I.V for any updates and will let you know.

Keep us posted. Forum readers may not be aware that Canadians pay a huge premium over just the dollar exchange rate for cars, particularly expensive cars. Case in point a fully optioned Porsche Carrera S in 2005 cost $98,000 USD but $149,900 CDn. Can you say rip-off? [Where the hell is that Free Trade the neo-cons rammed down our throats anyway?]

So for those of us looking to get a second car it would be great to be able to tap into US supply. Not so great for retaining current converted car values though.

The price of a good time keeps going up :wink
