GT won't start--Ideas

Wouldn't simply jumping the questionable battery with another eliminate (or confirm) the possibility of a bad battery? I'm surprised that wasn't tried before the "bump start". If the car starts I would recommend a long, slow charge (engine off, of course). Verify good terminals and ground, first.

Is that the same AAA guy that told me that my battery has a reset botton in it that the factory forgot to reset :rofl, oh,...., the humanity. Just an FYI, Optima makes a gel battery identical to the factory one but without the FGT logo.

...it's the ground strap. Kumar and EP are correct. I had the very same issues. I couldn't understand why one brake light would stay lit, but I couldn't turn the engine over.

I disconnected the battery at the battery terminals and re-attached. The car fired up...then wouldn't re-start after turning off. The disconnect/re-connect cycled the system enough to let me start it each time. It just wouldn't draw enough charge until I paid attention to the frame connection.

Remedy:
Sand away the paint underneath the ground strap where it attaches to the frame thus leaving an uninhibited clear channel for the current to flow.

A couple guys at Rally II had the same issues after tracking. Problem cleared right up after fix. :thumbsup

It's the starter

If you get in the car and the lights work fine, it's not the battery. Also, if the battery is completely toast, a bump start often won't work. Tried with a mustang on a hill. Just not enough juice to fire the engine before the alternator started generating.

Anyway, same thing happened to me. Of course, not in the garage, but out and about. Replaced the starter and it's all good now.

try taking your battery out and using it on another car. If it works OK in that car probably not you battery.

Or just drop in another battery and see what happens.....might save a lot of time checking a bunch of stuff needlessly! :thumbsup

and the answer is>>>>>

Thanks for all of your suggestions, support and comments on the nonstarter GT.
The final answer was the initiator wire that plugs into the starter had cooked and fallen out.
It makes it so much easier to start when I don't have to park on a hill!!!

Bob,

Simple solution, just buy another GT that has a fresh battery in it.:cheers

Did you bring anything home from B/J?

Jeff

Jeff:
Did not buy anything.
Thought there would be more blood in the streets.
Prices held up better than expected.
Took the GT out today.
It was a great day for driving.
