GT Decals...Can they be removed without damaging the underlying paint.

I like the look of the GT Heritage and would like to buy one without the decals. A lot of Heritage Gt's have the decals on and I've been told that the decals can be removed without damaging the paint. Is this correct?? Has anyone who actually owns a Heritage removed the decals successfully without damage to the paint?? Thanks, Eamon.

Yes they may be removed. Here is a pic of one that already has them removed.

Actually, I called about this car and the white roundels were never applied. They are still in the box. It comes with info on where to place them EXACTLY if you choose. There is a picture of this in the eBay listing.

But, I don't think it would hurt the paint if you slowly removed them. They are stickers.

Get your wifes hair dryer out and put a little heat on the decal to soften it up and slowly peel it off. I am a pin striper by trade, since 1957 to be exact. I have put a lot on and have taken a lot off.

The white Rondel's are applied at the factory not by the dealer so whoever told you that they were wrong.

Those stickers are about 100 bucks a piece so figure 400 just to replace the white circle. The numbers come in a box and you apply those yourself.

they went up in price recently.

They went up ALONG with the price of the STICKER kit. The sticker kit went up something like 500% so figure the White Rounds to be somewhere in the $2000 range or better.

Also, I agree, ALL THE HERITAGE CARS CAME FROM THE FACTORY WITH THE WHITE CIRCLES IN PLACE. Now, I will not argue that the dealer has a duplicate set in place to go with the car, but that is definatly not the way it came from Wixom.

If you follow the black pinstripe that goes along the blue and orange paint, it appears that it stops as soon as it goes under the white circle.(the one on the hood)
So...if you remove the white circle, you will have to also peel off the black stripe. Then, you will have to replace the black pinstripe. I don't know if it would be hard to match the black or not. I'm sure someone who does pinstriping could tell you. Just something to consider before you remove the white circles.

Being in a business where I am constantly applying or removing decals on cars I found some things to be constant. (movie car rentals, including Police cars from diff states. ambulances, etc..therefore constantly removing and re-applying decals to match the state we are shooting) A hair dryer is a must in heating up the decals, being careful not to get it too close as to burn it while it's still on the car. The hairdryer is used simply to loosen the underlying glue on the decal. Never....Never use a razor blade, as it will remove the paint..(I have seen this mucho times) Peeling the decal should be done very slowly. If I had the choice, I would gladly pay an experienced professional to do it. I did notice, that removing a decal from a car that has had a paint job ( a repaint), it will surely pull the paint off no matter what you do.

Hope this helps,

Gino
