A fair test? A real existing F150 production model vs a prototype that has close to zero chance of making it into production.

A real F150 production model, with (two - one actually) rear wheel drive. Wouldn't expect anything less from Musk.

Not worth it. When Ford went after Ferrari in the 60s they went after the number 1 performance car in the world, so beating them gave Ford a publicity advantage in the performance area where they were lagging behind GM. Responding to a stunt by Tesla will give Tesla's vaporware valuable publicity but will not give the F-150 which is the standard by which other trucks are measured anything in return.

There's a reason why Musk's other company is called "The Bull**** Company". His customers are already waiting for months for some spare parts. Doubt he'll be selling as many cars when tax payer subsidies are phased out.

Are the taxpayer subsidies going to be phased out?

Yes. The $7,500 federal tax credit starts to phase out when a company sells 200,000 eligible vehicles. Through Dec 2019 the credit for Tesla vehicles will be $1,875. Starting next year no Tesla vehicle will be eligible for tax credit. The only other car maker losing the tax credit is GM. They will still have $1,875 credit through 2020.
