I was fortunate to see this Lola Mark VI at the vintage races at Pacific Raceway in Washington last summer - and Augie Pabst was there to drive it.

Never realized it was wrong hand shifted! Always assumed it had a shill mounted shifter ala the GT40s.

This is the first I've ever seen/heard of this car. I had no idea it existed. But, after seeing it, it's clear to me the Corvette could have/should have been some type of 'clone' of this car from at LEAST the late 60's on. (In 1970 rumors abounded that "the next" Corvette would BE a mid-engine car. I'm now wondering if this Lola was at the root of that rumor.)

That is one of the only cars I have ever seen that is as beautiful as a Ford GT.

I thought I knew most all of the story behind the GT40, How cool to learn about it's "birth". Great post!
