According to Mr. Hodges, this is one of the late production Mark Vs. I don't know enough about these cars to venture a guess as to value but since it isn't one of the early cars I would assume (maybe incorrectly) it is worth much less.

The photos leave much to be desired.

That car I believe is a MKI. The tail of the dark car in photo 2 appears to be a MKII.
I'll look it up when I get home tonight and see if it is a Ford built car or a Safir.

its a mark V road car according to my book. Nothing really noted except that its a late production for road only car.

Hmmm, then it would most have to be a Safir. All of Fords road cars (less than a dozen) were listed as MKIII's.

Yes ... to both of the GT's that he has. I guess according to the book that I am looking at.

Steve, then they shouldn't be worth anymore (or maybe even less) than a new SPF or am i wrong in my thinking? I wonder what the bids are coming in at. I have been on the fence for a few years over a replica. I almost pulled the trigger on a CAV but didn't fit in their old versions. I believe I will now on their new version. What I would really like is a MKIV but no rollers to date. Don't know if I have another project in me of that scope.:frown

The Mark IIIs were not the only road versions as some of the earlier cars were also for road use. The Mark IIIs were, however, the first real effort to produce road cars (which didn't pan out). #1139 is a Safir but apparently it is still recognized as an "official GT", not just another replica.

SteveA...

there is a company in Michigan building Mk4's...mine...

We have three under build at the moment ...currently we are the only company in the world offering a Mk4....the body is replicated from an original...with an aluminium monocoque chassis.

We have a customer picking one up next week with a new aluminiun 427 and dual 4 barrels...in red gelcoat...looks awesome....

1139 is a Safir car...Mk1 style bodywork...a nice Safir will fetch approx 300k min. at auction.

according to the book that I am looking at 1139 is considered an original GT. As far as a replica. Jeff made a comment to me that made sense about the SPF. "yeah, but you have a brand new 40 year old car." The cool thing about the spf cobra and cobra daytona is that they are modern underneath the skin. But then again .. I guess you could say the same thing about our cars.

Sometimes being romantic about years gone by is just forgetting how much of a pain in the butt the old cars really where.

300k seems fair ... if you want one in your collection .. myself I'd prefer an old race car .. just for the been there factor.

Is not the SPF also marketed as a continuation like the Safir? The SPF people say they are even working on the car being accepted in the Historic races (lots of luck).
I believe the MKIs were produced in a large quanity to be homologated for GT racing but were not purpose built to be road cars like the MKIII was. My dad and his Business partner purchase #P1060 from CS in #68 and this car was call a "press car" so go figure.
