Ford GT Sound System Recommendations

Hey Guys;

I have just gotten the Ford GT to what I would like (presently - TT in the future) as to upgrades (Thanks to Kendall and his son at COOLTECH). Amazing Job Guys!!!.

However, I would like to upgrade my factory speakers (Especially that subwoofer that I think plays full range - I hear the singer voices beat in it). Any recommendations as to speakers that would fit right in the doors and on a subwoofer that would fit in the current factory enclosure + an amplifier. I already have the Double-Din enclosure provided by Shadowman and the original Mcintosh upgraded to Pioneer screen to fit in it.

Thank you in advance for all your help :)

An aftermarket exhaust is all the sound system upgrade that you'll need!!!!

Heffner has added that tune for me :) And what a sound! 1 YR on and still music!

If you go to a no muffler system, invest in earphones!

How does one turn the radio on? :lol:lol:lol

What radio?

Between the GT and the FX. I get over 10,000+ miles on the GT each year. Regular trips to Vegas need some "motivational" music. How else can I "forget how fast I was going officer... Music was on... Was I doing 120? really? seemed like 70!"

Much as I love great car audio...and all my other vehicles have it, I won't bother with it in the GT. The Mac system sounds pretty good with great bass, bit I never use it. With the aftermarket exhaust, I keep the radio off...

I am a bit of an audiophile and have been looking forward to doing this for a while now.... Has no one upgraded their systems? If so, sizes recommended?

stay stock

Just do a Discovery Automotive sub relocate and you may find it suits your needs.

Seen this conversion on 2112's car. Very nicely done. And not to steal the thread but, I've logged a little over 1K miles now in the GT. Want to turn on the Mac and looking for a recommendation as to which CD I should play in the car for the first time......

Supertramp's Crime of the Century. Best piano in rock n' roll :thumbsup

7k miles in almost 6 years (yeah I know not many miles) I have literally only turned the radio on twice. FWIW I feel lost in "normal" cars with out the radio.

You are an audiophile and you swapped the McIntosh for a Pioneer?

I'm interested to see where you wind up. This is definitely a future project for me.... probably when I install Kips Double Dinn unit thats sitting on my shelf.

I have headers and racing exhaust so there's no doubt I appreciate the sound a GT but I love listening to music too. The Macintosh system is lacking and I find it to be fatiguing after a while. Its not an audiophile set-up at all.

I like to jam out when I'm driving too. And I put about as many miles on my GT as you. The Mac sub can buckle under certain loads but I've found that only happen when I factor in bass amplification to the eq (still using the Mac radio). It would be nice to add a more robust system to the GT but I'm not going to tackle that job until I decide to dampen all the external sound factors. -don't start crying about the exhaust, you guys know what kind of exhaust I have. I could cut my ears off and mail them to Enzo Ferrari, I'd still here that sweet GT V8 singing to me. I would add lots of blackhole insulation to the doors and floor and dynomat everywhere. Of course the easy answer si headphones. Let us know what you go with.

Willie Nelson's "On The Road Again"

I have Pioneer 9960's in 3 vehicles...they are much more than a cut above the Mac...and have much more functionality too! The Mac sounds nice, but more about the amplification and speaker setup. The modern Pioneer and other head units have much better sound reproduction and far more capability such as multimedia, NAV, Bluetooth HF etc...no comparison. The stock GT Mac units are not the units for home of years ago, when they were "the" product to go with.

Much easier with the ipod integration, options... rear view camera.. + Navigation. I get lost in LA and I used to use the GT as a daily driver. Love the sound of it... Always looking for tunnels to hear those heffner pipes roar. But still.. its good to have clearer speakers and a better sub for some long drives. :thumbsup
