Just spent the afternoon basking in a little garage therapy, changing the oil in my mighty GT, and thinking about this very subject.

Here is the equation: Mid engine exotic+ built in America+great racing heritage+easy to mod+ 200 mph right out of the box +jaw dropping, eye popping styling + only 4000 made + great community of owners = cars that will only become more valuable as time passes.

Ah, its great to be a GT owner!

+1 Everything I've read puts the FGT at the top for a collector car for the average guy. I think it was Car @ Driver rated the FGT #1 and the Mitsubishi 3000GT as #2 for collectability. I'm sure they are not in the same league as the 1 of 4 collector cars, but those aren't for the average guy.

Yeah agree now on ACR; probably need to make that "base" Viper. Isnt there also a Viper ACR-X thats even more brutal?

RE: $85K 430s....they appear online/ebay; saw a $70K Gallardo...even from reputable dealers.

When Gallardos hit $40K thats a screaming buy.

At $88K I'll bet you it was used and abused and perhaps mechanical issues. Not a real indication. You can have really clean ones with higher mileage around 15,000 miles for $125K all day long

All right, I just noticed this stuff in passing. But $70 large for Gdo? That's CRAZY CHEAP, unless it's BBD (Blown up, beat up, and Destroyed).
I don't know what my 9000 mile '06 GT is worth, (don't really care at present), but If I'd would have spent $200 ish large on an Gdo two or three years ago to have hit more than halved....

Here is another original MSRP $170K turned disastrous for resale. A great value at $60K in my opinion and a trouble free car with a timeless design.

2006 Bentley Continental GT
Price $95,500 $62,000 $77,792

And for my favorite..2006 BMW M5.... Perhaps the worst resale ever plus an ugly overweight car with no style - at least in my opinion. When they first hit the street they were selling at $100K. Now....

Price $37,250 $28,600 $33,657

Those two Ford Taurus's I mean Jaguars that you owned really maintained their value as well. My favorite was the pink one! :biggrin

The S Type was a Ford. The XJ was and is British. Both her XJ6 & XJ8 were leased for 2 years with zero money factor. Sometime you have to please the wife. I did it on the cheaper side... Thank God she does not like the new body design.

I agree with Mitty and the rest here. FGT is a rare car that has attained icon status in its own time. Not many have accomplished this.

I do like the Viper ACR too but bought a Shelby GT500KR since I got a killer deal on one and I'm a Shelby nut. But the ACR was tempting.

Given the market condition, I have been trying to buy a few cars that have great styling and long term value potential, buy them and put them away for a couple years...I think my return would be better than what my SEPP/401K is doing and it is a hell of a lot more fun! Since I just bought an 05 FGT a couple months and think it is the best looking, most powerfull, coolest car ever....my next purchases will have to be on the lower end of the scale. What is the groups thoughts on the following vehicles for potential upside?
1971-72 240Z
93-95 Mazda RX7
93 Supra
72 Cheyenne

Road & Track has a cool article on the Final Edition & ACR Racing; show the stations at plant in final assembly
