Dumb Gt Dealers

Personally, I'd be a lot more willing to make a purchase of this size... roughly $160K for the car I want... if I didn't have to go through a "dealer"... I wish that Ford had set up some specialized system for bypassing dealers on these cars.

I'd like to by direct and avoid the typical dealer b/s.

Of course I understand that these cars were designed to help promote the other cars in the line, and build dealer traffic, yada, yada, yada... but for now, I'm still a buyer in waiting... :confused

A person who wants to believe his own press that somehow the 100k over MSRP days will be coming back...and keep this in mind..the WIXOM assembly plant was bult to build the SHELBY FORD as well as the GT's... when they shut down in August to re-tool for the new car..how many GT owners will be standing in line to sell their GT's for the SHELBY??? keep that in mind..there are over 70 GT'S FOR SALE CURRENTLY ON EBAY..the prices continue to drop..yea

Maybe this is starting to explain why the Dealers in Kalifornia still want Monster money over MSRP, Probably because their all in "Dreamland". I didn't believe that $100K over bullshit either.

VPC, I guess one or two would import them privately. The specialist dealers are doing just what you suggest.

The base price (roughly) is £96,000, add VAT - £112,000, add import duty, cost of shipping, registration and I guess you're heading towards a considerably higher cost. The dealers then add their margin.....

Most people I know with four cars or more (a typical GT buyer) would not want the hassle (or have the time) to arrange a personal import.

I enjoy Neil's post. In Europe the GT is priced at or slightly above the Italian and British competition. Stateside it is priced way over the Z06 and Viper competion. Great to read about folks making comparisons of cars they own and the roads they drive on... keep em coming PLEASE.

Yes it is a fact, that it was actually over that 100k,and by an A-List actor
I turned him on to a fellow dealer who sold his to him. This was at the beggining of last year. Many cars were originally sold to the Auto Brokers who were ( and still) relentlessly call looking for more unsold GTs. A lot of the cars that have been on E-bay have been "rehoofed" to other new AND used car dealers..
FYI, in the Notheast there are still apprx 15-20 -05s that are at the original Dealership.. Who knows why the current owners are selling them. Could be cash flow, could be they just don't want it anymore. Isn't that why they have Auctions? I even know a Dealer that swapped some other very expensive and stale inventory with his GT. He came out a winner and so did the other Dealer.
One thing that you also want to keep in mind.... The Shelby Mustang will have a much higher distribution #. Every Ford Dealer that becomes certified will get at least 1 unit. I've seen and touched the new Shelby and it is AWESOME but The Shelby is NOT a GT.........Have a great nite......Forddude

Hello Tony, Great... Swanson Fahrney's white/blue car is on the cover of one of those local car selling rags at $179k... make an offer. I have seen Bob's GT, he is really driving the wheels off that car... which is what it is all about, isn't it?
Happy New Year,
daniel
Ya bony, I've got to hand it to Bob Silva. He has fun with his toys and best of all he is willing to share it with others who share a common interest. You are right about him driving the wheels off the car. When I drove the car it had almost 3500 mi on it and the rear rubber was pretty well used up. They don't call him "The Nice Guy" for nothing. He really is and has been to me. Hope to see you on the road soon. Best regards, Tony

I totally agree with you. The other thing I'm not clear on is if someone offered the dealer on here $100K over MSRP, why not take it you can buy all the 05 Red GT's you want for $10K back of MSRP. I would have sold it and bought another and put $100K in my pocket. Keep in mind Red is the most produced color and the easiest to get a big discount on.

Just another FYI....REASONS FOR NOT SELLING . I have a very low serial #. I video taped the entire delivery process from Ford, I am the only one who has driven it. I know the ORIGINAL owner....It is like it is my "child".. Why would I sell it to buy another one. There are only apprx 2000... AND almost every GT sold up until the summer sold for around $225 to $250K AND to another Dealer..including Used Dealers......... I like most GT owners understand the market and know that these cars will at sometime bottom out..like everything..... who cares??? If the car is worth $500k in 30 -50 years, I probably won't be around anyway

I think that hockeynut was probably referring to the very amazing Shelby GR-1, which shares much of the GT's platform, and is rumored to possibly be the successor to the GT.

Anybody heard any new rumors about whether or not the GR-1 is still potentially coming?

I'm not talking about the SHELBY MUSTANG. I'm talking about the FORD SHELBY that is being bulit on the same platform AS THE GT. It looks like the old daytona coup and Ford has had several versions of them at variouys venues, such as DEtroit, Monterey etc...people will be standing in line for these and dumping ther GT's...you'll see...

I've seen the Prototype of this car somewhere, Please Enlighten me to why GT owners will sell them to buy this car? What Motor does it have? Why is it better?

I could be wrong, but I think the GR-1 IS dead. Ford has too many real challenges on its plate right now to expend energy on the GR-1.

I know-I know, that's what a lot of people (including me) were saying about the GT back in 2002, but Ford's financial situation has only gotten worse in the last three years. If you're looking to the GR-1 to drive down GT prices, you're going to be looking REALLY hard.

As for the GT, I figured my $160K was gone as soon as I bought the car (for MSRP), and don't plan on seeing it again. Two reasons for this:
1. Why the Hell would I ever sell it???
2. Why the Hell would I buy a car as an investment??????

The answer to number 2 seems painfully obvious. Yeah, certain muscle cars have gone up in value -- THIRTY YEARS after they were sold, but don't try to tell me some dolt back in 1970 bought a Hemi 'Cuda and kept it all 35 years knowing he could retire on the value in 2005. Most of those cars have changed hands several times. And if there is an original Hemi 'Cuda owner out there he's as shocked as the rest of us at what they are going for. He may be able to sell it now and retire, but he certainly didn't plan it that way.

So why all the enegry being expended on guessing about future GT values? The car is #&%*ing awesome! If you can get one for around MSRP you're getting a good deal...as long as you simply keep it, drive it, and revel in how amazing it is -- without any further thought to "making money" on the damn thing!

If you're remotely looking into a Ford GT as an investment item, you're stupid. If you don't believe me, check with every Viper, Prowler, SVT Mustang, GTO, Grand National, ZR-1 and Z06 owner on the planet who has stored them in bubble wrap with 6.8 miles on the odo. All of them wish they'd simply bought Microsoft stock instead of their car. And if all you want to do is check market value on your property every week, versus driving the hell out of it and having fun, I suggest you stick with stocks, too.

I need to take a drive, too. I stayed home to work on some stories today (and maybe visit the Ford GT forum -- during my lunch break of course) and the weather is simply too beautiful to stay inside! Wife says it will rain this weekend so I need to blow off work NOW and just pull the cover off the GT.

The classic Triumphs (Hurricane and Trident) haven't seen sunlight for too many weeks, too. Oh, decisions-decisions... :banana

Other then some family members back in Detroit who told me the story, that's all I got for you on the GR-1. But think about this. Ford did not invest millions and millions on a state of the art plant to build just 4,000 GT's! Even given their current economic situation, they got to be making big bucks on these cars. Even if the plant is only partially paid for by the Gt's, what are they going to do, start building Mustangs on this line? All I know is that I'm going to buy one as cehap as I can, even if I wait till summer whne more come available and rive the crap out of it.!
