Not sure what format this is (.3ds and .max files?), but I discovered a downloadable 3D model of the ford GT here (second download link):

I downloaded Google Sketchup (free), and you can import the .3gs file, but I don't have any idea what I'm doing.....

Where did you find the .3gs file?
 
This model looks like it was either created (or imported) for a console game as it uses TIN (Triangulated Irregular Network) for polygons - a way of getting realism without overwhelming the rendering engine. In a CAD/CAM/CAE environment, they typically use NURBS - Non Uniform Rational B-SPlines for surfaces as they are the baseline for manufacturing processes and how the skin of the car would be manufactured.

Its a cool model but useless in my humble opinion if your thinking about making any meaningful body parts.

Download the zip file from the link, it's in that folder after you unzip it.
