just wondering, has anyone had any problems at the dmv when paying titles percentage fees. did they always find the car or has anyone paid alot higher or extreme lower amounts when registering

We have an Automobile Excise Tax payable every year based on the (depreciated) value of all vehicles registered in the People's Republic of Massachusetts. This is in addition to registration and inspection fees and the rate is $66.00 per thousand of valuation, so a $100k value car pays $6,600. A new vehicle would incur the tax based on MSRP in year one. Apparently, the tax morons in Boston used a Ford Mustang GT as the basis for my FGT tax calculation, so I will save a lot of dough over the years. Perhaps they have no listing for the FGT due to its limited production and so few registered here in Mass.

This was to be a "temporary" tax initiated in the '70s when the state ran out of money because Gov. Dukakis and the Legislature spent us into the stone age. It was supposed to be eliminated after three years. It's now 2007 and after over 30 years, they continue to collect millions. This is why we're appropriately known as Taxachusetts!

wow

im in maryland and im hoping for the same...gonna play dumb:confused

very simple here in California, bring the bill of sale in and pay the piper a percentage.
Of course you have to have it smogged and the vin verified by the CHP if you bought it out of state. Hell is is just money....

usmcfred pay 6600+/- every year!!!???? on the GT. :ack
Holy crap the one time 14% combined GST and PST is not so bad. :thumbsdow Also the GST (6%) is refundable if a corporation /dealer has bought the car.

So, evidently (at least for YOU) the fact that Ford called the GT the "Ford GT" was a really blessing in disguise. If it HAD been called the "GT 43" or "GT 44" - you'da REALLY been screwed tax wise! :lol

So, from now on I'll try to keep that in mind when someone says to me, "Oh! You own a GT? What year IS your Mustang?"

Pockets, It happens all the time when the subject of the FGT comes up. People just ASSUME it's the Mustang as NOBODY really has a 550 HP mid-engined blown supercar!

Ya! I know! Even at my local Ford parts counter! :lol

Yes, but don't you guys get this big deduction off your 1040's?

$15 for the tax, title, and two year registration fee. Annual vehicle license tax is waived while on active duty. I did splurge and spend $52 for personal plates.

Ford GT - Mustang GT.... that happened to me with my insurance.

I spoke to the broker and we agreed on $150,000 value (max with progressive).

When I saw the premium I knew something was wrong and in fact on my card there was written Mustang GT.

So I went on line and changed the VIN number to the correct one (yes the VIN was wrong) and Ford GT appeared.
Same details in the policy, same $150k value... same premium... My FGT used to cost me $1,500 to insure...

Now in the UK it is another story... oh well....

As per taxes at the DMV I had to pay the 4% of the value of the car from the bill of sale... so around 6K.

Needless to say the lady behind the counter had me come up to the front of the DMV parking lot bacause she had never seen a $150k Ford race car...

You gotta love North Carolina!
