I believe they were built in batches depending on the options, mostly color. All of the same color cars are batched together so that the paint stations can be more efficient. It would be a pain to change colors in the equipment for every car coming down the line. How big the batches are I don't know. Someone else on the forum can answer that one, because he worked at one of the plants.
