Periodically each Chaparral gets driven for preservation reasons with Jim behind the wheel. As all the Chaparral cars reside at Permian Basin Petroleum Museum in Midland, we sometimes tie a drive event to the annual Chaparral party. For this years live drive and party, it is the 2J aka Sucker Car - the one and only!

If you ever get in the area, don't miss this great exhibit of Jim Hall's cars.

I witnessed the Sucker at Watkins Glen many years ago. The sound of the auxiliary motor that created the vacuum (I think it was a two stroke snowmobile engine), and the debris field behind, will never be forgotten.

You are right. German Rockwell JLo. It makes way more noise than the BBC motor.

Shop guys tell me it raced part of one season before it was sorted out......then rules were changed for the following years. And, it was over.

Lap times were +/- 2 seconds faster than the field.

YEP!!! Like the turbine car at Indy, the organizations were not quite ready for VERY innovative engineering. Jim Hall was one of the best!
