Am I the only one that likes the "standard' wheels?

My GT came with the lightweight BBS wheel but I would have been just as happy with the "standard" wheels. I like the less complicated look of the plain 6 spoke wheel.

Does anyone know who makes the standard wheel? What is the weight difference?

BBS does make both wheels. The standard wheels are cast while the optional ones are forged.

I like the standard wheels better, cause you can order the upgraded wheels from the catalog for the same price as the dealer sells them as an upgrade.

Just order your upgraded BBS wheels, throw some Pilot Sport cups on them for track days and DD on the standard wheels/stock rubber.

You are not alone! I prefer the standard wheels too and have them fitted to my GT.

Agree. I had explicitly ordered the standard wheels aswell. The trick with buying a separate set of lightweights for the price of the upgrade on first delivery is sweet, and a blow into the face of anyone ordering the lightweights right away by Ford. They should change that for 2006, by making the LW wheel option cheaper.

Yeah, I've got one.

I too prefer the look of the standard wheels. I negotiated with my dealer to include a set of the forged wheels which I intend to mount track rubber on as was suggested earlier.

Anyone know the price for the standard wheel if ordered through Ford parts?

Can you give me a bit more info on this so I can talk more intelligently to my dealer? It sounds like one can end up with a "free" set of wheels.

You order the car with standard wheels. Don't pay 3500 for upgraded wheels when you can buy them for 3500 through the catalog (or buy any other wheels you want or just save the 3500 and buy that trick new straight exhaust).

The dealers are essentially ripping off a set of wheels unless you want your car to optioned out on the original invoice or some other strange reason like that.

I don't like the standard wheel. Way to plain.

I also prefer the standard wheel and would like to get a set. I am more concerned with getting the "correct" OEM tire as I was told that the aftermarket Goodyears typically have a different construction. Even though they are the same type and size, their belts and/or compound is different. Anybody have any info??

The standard wheels/rims will cost you ~$2500 for a set of 4 retail.
(F=$481.77 ea, R=$776.73 ea)

However, dealer cost is only $1600 for a set of 4!!!
You can't go wrong with this. It's the price of 1 of the optional rims at retail price of $1700.

Just need to negotiate a set of standard rims at dealer cost if you end up buying a GT with the optional rims.

RickM - Thanks for the pricing info. I have a call in for the GM at the dealer to see he will work with me on the wheels.

Have you used the P-zeros on your GT? I believe that they were on my Challenge Stradale and worked well. I like the predictability of the Goodyears. I know that Ford worked with Goodyear to "get it right"

Mine came with standard wheels and then a week or two later I bought the upgraded wheels. So, I have 4 standard wheels sitting in my garage. Please make offer if interested...I'm near Sacramento but I can easily ship anywhere. This should go without saying: the wheels are flawless since I used them for only a few miles.

Weight of optional lightweight forged wheels

[QUOTE by Steve T]My GT came with the lightweight BBS wheel but I would have been just as happy with the "standard" wheels. I like the less complicated look of the plain 6 spoke wheel.

Does anyone know who makes the standard wheel? What is the weight difference?

Steve and others,

Today I just received my set of optional forged wheels that I had ordered at the time of purchasing my car. My car came with the stock wheels. I like both styles; however, I wanted to retain the optional set in case it could ever impact the resale value of the car. I do intend on keeping this car as long as possible.

The front wheel (right out of the box) weighs in at 20.7 pounds. The rear wheel is 25.2 pounds. I do not have any easy method to determine the moment of inertia between these and the stock wheels. I would suspect that any difference between the two from a performance perspective is minimal. Perhaps a slight difference in handling??? Now, does anyone know the weight of the stock wheels?

As some of you have mentioned earlier, I intend to purchase a set of stock tires. I will have them mounted and balanced and keep them as backups in my garage.
