Stumbled on this. Pretty amazing what can be done with printing now.

Yes, pretty amazing. It’s cost effective to do for limited numbers of items, but still way too slow and expensive for mass production. That will improve, but it will be a long time before 3D printing of metal parts can compete with conventional methods for 1000’s of copies.

It also opens possibilities for manufacturing parts that would be very difficult with conventional methods, such as parts with voids in them or internal structure. That’s being done in the aerospace industry for very lightweight parts.

What has me wowed is that

1) They are printing Inconel

2) one-off parts are now only very expensive, not virtually impossible.
