I'll be crewing for a couple of friends who've entered a car in the "LeMONS ARSE-FREEZE-APALOOZA 2009" at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, north of Sacramento - one of the series of races held around the country in the "24 Hours of Lemons" at various tracks. Should be a lot of fun.

The value of an entry can be no more than $500 - so, in addition to the normal tools I will use, I'm also taking a wide selection of crowbars and other prying equipment. Here's what will happen if you try to cheat with an entry which violates the $500 rule.

Some of the intense action - it's a hilarious race.

Spinouts galore; at :48 to :56, he gets hit in the side; I love the part at 3:27 when the sign hits and flys over the car.

Watch the camera vibrate in this one

Ralphie, will you be there on Friday?

Yes - I'll probably be getting there around 2 pm or so - it's about 320 miles from home (if Tioga Pass is open). Returning home on Monday morning, as it's too long a drive to contemplate since the event ends at sundaown on Sunday. No GT - bringing my truck.

For me it is less than 100 miles. I have obligations Sat, but I might go Friday to check out tech inspections or Sunday, as an excuse for a drive.

It should be a lot of fun.... I think my friend said that the winning car for the event also gets crushed at the end.

It was a great race, and I had a hell of a good time. We finished 1st in our Class (Class 2 - the "Bad"), and 7th Overall. We were about 12 laps behind the leader, and about 20 laps in front of the 2nd car in our class.

Our team was "Team Hurling Moss" as the car (a 1976 BMW 2002) was found in a forest in Washington covered with moss (still visible on some of the car) and was sold to the current owners for $10. There is some suspicion that it was previously used as a drug-running car.

There were about 155 cars entered in the event, and over 90 finished the race - although some were worked on all night to be able to run the second day.

Some pictures of a few of the cars are below, and more can be found at
