2013 Viper Smacked by 4 year old ZR1

I bet the VCA forums are even worse...LOL

Here - one thread at least after a quick browse...and again, they feel victorious...wow

Some very funny(and typically stupid) shit in that thread...make me bust a gut when I read it...

If I recall correctly, Randy commented during initial testing of the ZR1 that he did not feel comfortable in it cresting the hill at Laguna before turn 1. I think that he said that he lifted there rather staying flat as most of the faster cars do. I am sure that the last thing he would want to do is wad up a new Viper during a test session. If the car did not feel "solid" who could blame him for not going 10/10's in the test.

The Viper crowd is tough. It looks like they are going to burn Gilles in effigy. His impersonation of Al O. isn't going over well.

I hope that SRT sees this as an opportunity for the ACR. Give it 700hp, carbon ceramic brakes, improved suspension, and optional DCT. Not only will it take out the ZR1, but also most anything else out there.

...Give it 700hp...

IMHO that's the h.p. level the base model SRT Viper should have had from the get-go...and if not, then at least the GTS should. After all, there's a MUSTANG that sports 662 for Pete's sake!!! 640 in a Viper is just NOT all that awe inspiring these days 'far as I'm concerned.

Buuuuuuut, what do I know...

I completely agree. I do not think the Viper would have the reputation it has today if the first generation was released making less power than a production Mustang of the same time.

So does I...that thing should have been 700+ right off the bat with a whopping amount of TQ at 3K, like the SMALL BLOCK ZR1...even if only for bragging rights. I guess they're trying to make the car a monster with less power. Makes no sense to me...

I guess they figured they have the displacement, so they don't need the power? 8.4 #^@#! liters and they can't build it with a mere 800-900 HP??? Hell, our GT's are good for an easy 1000 RW reliable HP...in a 5.4 liter block. To me, that equates to at least 2 gazillion HP in a Viper, but they stopped at 640...same as the previous generation's ACRX. Wow!

Like I said, I won't be lining for one anytime soon. It's war over at the VCA -

EPIC FAIL IMO.

I'm not a Viper guy, but it's amazing to me to see 'loyalists' jump ship over a 2 second lap deficiency

Get some perspective already.

A glimpse of rational thought seeps through:

Let's face it, life is good when we can complain that one of America's sports cars is "only" 6th on the Laguna Seca fast list, ahead of some exotics costing much, much more.

Not a Viper owner, but pretty familiar with them as we used the ViperGen IV (modified ) as the base donor for our Devon GTX.
If I were the Viper Guys, I would phone up Justin Bell, give him a Viper and a small team as we had with the Devon Program , let him practice on Willow Springs and then on to LagunaSeca (a track he truly loves) and let him loose for a ''Try at the Record'''.,.

I'm curious as lap time with expert in a GT, stock vs one with sticky tires, pulley tune and lowered suspension?
Rocket what do you think the numbers would be?

Car and Driver (2/13) reached the same conclusion. Discontinued ZR-1 takes '13 Viper at Laguna Seca. 2 sec/lap. Weak brakes. Not even close on total point score.

Epic meltdowns on Viperclub......and for me the worst part for them is the Viper will be $150k new, while you can buy the victorious ZR1 for $75k for early cars.
