2 GT's at Barrett Jackson

There are 2 2005 GT's in the Scottsdale Barrett Jackson. One has delivery miles, don't know about the other. Should be interesting to see what they go for. Apparently they are up with no reserve.

Any early predictions on price?

Have we decided on a dinner while we are there? :thumbsup

Unfortunately, these types of auctions are the wrong place to sell a new supercar. They traditionally do very poorly, and with no reserve, bad move on the seller's part if it's true. They'll go very cheap.

The last post on the dinner thread was from Rich Brooks- The GT GUY, and
he was commenting that Thursday is not a good day. I reverted asking which
night works. Chip has a great restaurant and will offer protected parking
to GT's. So... it is still a work in progress, I am sure it will happen, just need
to nail it down. Doesn't sound like as many folks will come to the auctions as
Sema.

Today on the radio I heard a dealer's ad, he is from the tiny town of FIREBAUGH in the middle of the cotton-tomato-canalope fields. Commercial said, got a "GT HERITAGE AT WINDOW STICKER, NO DEALER MARK UP".
The GSM does the commercials and he says always 'WESTSIDE FORD, HOME OF NO TIES, NO LIES". I always smile when I hear his commercials, sells a ton of Power Stroked :biggrin :banana :biggrin . There are lots of cars at sticker,
that have never been driven.

NO SUITS, NO TIES & NOOOOO LIES. I am going to go see how much Mr. Mike Ratley really wants for his jewel. He told me over two years ago he'd make me a hell of a deal on a GT if he could get one. Bob Silva got another '06 midnight blue w/ stripes and all options.

If dinner gets scheduled for Wednesday night I'll be there! Is there a local Forum member working on setting this up?

Wednesday would work for me, I left Chip Beck in charge. Most likely we need to get a new thread with a sticky started. Perhaps a poll which night works for everyone. I am flexible for a being a big boy :biggrin

Hello Chip, ... you out there my friend. Every since he got that new Kirkham he has been a ghost... :biggrin :wink :biggrin

Don't think the history is relevant, cars guys know the market, now if you get some rich drunk with a hot babe with her hand in his pocket, anything can happen.

This year the Buyers premium to B-J is 10%. Seller pays B-J 8%.
As I understand this, if a GT hammers down at $160k, the Seller will receive $147k, the Buyer will pay $176k, and B-J will make $29k...which means the Seller did ok, the Buyer overpaid considerably, and for B-J it's a wonderful World.

Wow. I had no idea the commissions are that high. Not a bad way to earn a living, with no flooring costs, and no money tied up in inventory...

Not so fast, any idea what it costs to run an auction like B-J? Take a closer look. There is no such thing as a free lunch.

I've sold cars a long time ago. I realized that it wasn't much about "cars," and a lot about "sales." I sold on a much much much smaller scale.

Of course, $6MM in commissions on $35MM is a lot more than I made on car sales. But yeah, that would be a lot of work (and expense) to put on an extravaganza like the B-J auctions in order to gross $6MM.

>>>

PALM BEACH, Fla., April 1, 2006 – Continued strong demand pushed sales to over US$35,000,000, during the fourth annual Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Collector Car Event at the South Florida Expo Center in West Palm Beach, Fla. From Thursday, March 30 through Saturday, April 1, 2006, the finest post-war classics, muscle cars, modern supercars and celebrity vehicles sold at No Reserve. Highlights included a Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach record $1,728,000 for a Franay Bentley Mark VI, $572,400 for the #003 Ford GT and $110,700, for a 2006 Cadillac CTS owned by legendary rock star Sir Paul McCartney and his wife Heather Mills McCartney; all results include bidder’s fees.

Frankly, Barrett Jackson is a lifestyle show, the prices hamered are not indicative of the general market. Simply put, B-J is a well promoted brand.
4000 to 5000 well healed buyers, each prequalified with a line of credit, vying to buy 1100 cars. They have come to conquer, have told all their buddies to watch them on television and can't come home empty handed. Buyers jump up and down and do victory dances when they set new world records for setting the highest prices.

The buyers don't care if they spent to much, if they had a great weekend. Many of the buyers don't have the time to search out a great buy, or restore a car themselves.

Meanwhile, you have sellers that build auction queens to take to these sales as their primary business. They know exactly how to take a pig's ear and turn it into a prom queen.

Craig Jackson is a genius, he built the company, there is no room in the marketplace for another B-J. There are lots of good auction companies,
Bonhams, Gooding, RM, Russo and Steele, Mecum, Silver, McCormick, but there is only on BARRETT JACKSON.

Imagine that there were 2500 people in the USA that wanted a Ford GT, and they wanted it now, and they had the money, do you think there would be
600 sitting unsold?

Off my soap box :biggrin for now :willy

No soap box. This is interesting stuff Bony.

Thanks for the insight. I've never been to one. I hear the hostesses are something else though.

There is nothing else like Barrett Jackson. Every car guy needs to see it at least once. Bony's right on as it's only partly about the cars. :eek
