An enthusiast in Atlanta is using GT uprights/hubs on a race car which will have real knock-offs which he says will also be able to be used for the GT.

In the interim, a simple fabrication is being made that will provide the original "look" for existing wheels which will use real Halibrand knock-off spinners and have the appearance of being a true knock-off, with threaded hub extensions and wire locked spinners, but in fact will be a knock-off on the factory bolt-on wheels. If it sounds cheesy, I haven't described it well. I'll post a picture and price in the next couple weeks when they are finished.

I too love the look of a knock-off. I had them on my Daytona and GT-40 and think the look on the GT would be awesome. Ford obviously tried to mimic this with the stock GT wheel but was limited by what the safety nannies would think of something actually protruding from the hub. (The movie Ben Hur probably did more to eliminate spinners from the market than any real hazard issues.) I'm my cars we frequently had to tighten the knock offs with our little hammer and I really don't know how often this would need to be done on a street car. Additionally with an adapter plus a knock off we would now have two potential areas that could loosen or separate. So I'm wondering if something could be provided with all of the look with a bolt on wheel. Just my two cents but I agree the look would be excellent. :thumbsup

The knock-offs on the original GT40's were safety wired from a small hole drilled in one of the "ears" to one of the spokes to prevent backing off.
